For those who'd like to help keep it organized here:
1. Repost the post to a different board
Go to the posting form with "include above post" checked.
Change "board" to the new board.
Add "« poster" or something like that to the subject.
Post.2. Post a link to the original board
Copy the "your message" URL in the above confirmation.
Go back to the original post.
Go to the posting form.
Don't change "board".
Add "redirect" or something like that to the subject.
Explain what you're doing.
Paste in the URL you copied.
Post. It's an extra step, but to try to minimize confusion about who's posting what, I've started adding the "posted by" line to the quote of the post in step 1.
Any questions? Thanks,
Bob

Never a dull moment here! :-) The redirections should of course be reasonable. What to do about misredirections, hmm...

Yes, there could be very interesting things going on.......say, if "you know who" surfaces again and decides to completely dismantle the postings.......or if a new "you know who" comes around.....I'd say that it carries the potential for a great deal of chaos....

Anyone's always been able to do it. It's just a series of posts. I was doing it long before I was a deputy, because I used to feel sorry for the poor medication posts sitting out there on Psychological and not getting a reply.

My only suggestion is whether replies to a post BEFORE it gets redirected can be included when it arrives at its correct board (otherwise people might be making the same replies all over again).

Dinah, did you get my post to you about an internist?

Yes, I did. And thank you. I'm sorry I didn't post individual replies. Looks like many have much deeper relationships with their docs than I do.

They can be, sure, it's just more work for whoever's doing the redirect. But even if they're not included, they wouldn't need to made again if they were left on the original board...

> 1. Repost the post to a different board ...
Done that:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20040719/msgs/368839.html
(I tacked the repost onto a relevant thread that already existed; this may not be as good as the method Dr. Bob has since recommended, but it's not a fatal error.)
> 2. Post a link to the original board
I hoped that someone reading the above would do this for me, because only newbies, official greeters, Dinah and Dr. Bob can legally post on the original board. No-one has, and the board has archived three times since my post, so I'm repeating my request here on Admin.
> Copy the "your message" URL in the above confirmation.
The URL to copy is that of the link above. You can copy it from the address box near the top of the new browser window which opened when you clicked on that link.
> Go back to the original post.

> Post. That's all you have to do to earn my gratitude, and help the original poster and the poster who has replied on the redirected thread to get in touch :)
I hope none of the official greeters, who are doing a great job which I couldn't do, feel that I'm intruding into their territory. It already looked when I posted as if the post I was trying to redirect would never be answered. To the greeters' credit, it's only the second unanswered post in the entire history of the Newbies' Board - the poster of the first found his own way to a more appropriate board.
To the shame of the other nationalities here, none of the six who have volunteered to be greeters lives outside North America; they cannot be expected between them to know the name of every drug in every other country of the world. There are, therefore, likely to be rare occasions like this when someone in the wider Babble community may know how to deal with a post which the greeters have ignored. "Lustral" might sound as if it could belong on the Alternatives Board, but it's just a British name for Zoloft.
I apologize, above all to kate king and JCM, for making such a mess of this redirection and taking so long to put it right; in the future, I shall redirect only where I'm allowed to post on both boards!

If someone redirects a thread to a new board using the method you described above:
> 1. Repost the post to a different board
>
> Go to the posting form with "include above post" checked.
> Change "board" to the new board.
> Add "« poster" or something like that to the subject.
> Post.
>
> 2. Post a link to the original board
> ...will the original poster receive email when new messages are added to the redirected thread on the new board? For example, the current thread was started by malthus on the Writing Board:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/write/20040320/msgs/370694.html
Did malthus and KID A (who posted on the original thread before you redirected it here) receive email notification when I posted this message? (assuming they checked the appropriate box before submitting their posts and haven't cancelled)
It seems like a good idea that this should happen; it might help to keep redirected threads alive. If it does, it provides a good reason for NOT tacking the repost onto an old thread on the new board, as I did recently (see previous post).

No, unfortunately not. But it's a good idea. And thanks for doing that redirection!
