How is that idea coming? Perhaps you could start boards within Babble that are fee based, and require verifiable personal data, in order to post. People could choose rather or not to post on those boards, so that part of Babble would remain free. But parts could only be accessed by those willing to provide credit card information.

She's doing a bang up job, considering everything.
I could be wrong, but I believe the post about fee-based is actually a desire to find a way to keep out the rabble rousers. And who wouldn't want that?
Of course, I'm sure everyone realizes that making it fee based wouldn't solve the problem. I was taught at an early age that "class" doesn't come with a bank book.
Am I correct to assume you were talking about me when you mentioned "false statements?" I can certainly see how that could be confusing to someone that just stumbled onto it.
If it was me you were talking about I don't blame her for that, and I would hope nobody else would either. It was just a matter of the stars converging at the wrong point. Under the same circumstances I might have come to the same conclusion. After all:
1) I had just days before been taking up for another poster, to her distress.
2) I had JUST told her I had sent her an email
3) That email didn't arrive (wrong address).
4) At the EXACT SAME time she *did* get nasty email from a multiple poster.
5) Verification couldn't be done because she has no access to routing information. And, also to her defense, she didn't block me.
Anyway, I can see some humor in it, and some irony. The email I was trying to send her was a warning (is warning the right word? maybe observation is better) that I thought there was someone on the board that was a blocked poster.
So, to use a few cliches: water under the bridge, no harm no foul, what's past is past, etc.
And another bit of irony. It would be great to find a way to pre-screen people. But how would you do it? You have to have a mental illness of some sort, but you can't be *too* ill?
As the Kinks would say - "Life is sooooo complicated"

Obviously bank balance isn't the point with what I proposed. I can't imagine why anyone would think that it was. Dr. Bob's purpose in proposing it may well have been to raise funds to offset the cost of running this site. My purpose was to have Dr. Bob have access to identifying information. It's pretty easy to open email addresses and register under multiple names here. It's a heck of a lot harder to open or obtain credit cards under different names. Not impossible certainly, but a lot more difficult than going to Yahoo or Hotmail.
I'm not crazy about sending identifying information to Dr. Bob. I'm not planning to come to the meeting in Chicago. But if he can make the information secure, I trust him enough to send him that information.
As to whether that's the answer to a more peaceful Babble, I couldn't say. At the moment, my opinion is that a more peaceful Babble is a pipedream. But I'm hoping that I can be persuaded otherwise.

dinah:
as food for thought:
i may be an adult, but due to some poor credit history in my past, i do not currently hold a valid credit card.i also don't consider myself a rabble-rouser on this board and would hate to be excluded for my payment misdeeds.

There was something over the weekend that makes me wonder if a meeting with details posted won't get crashed. Hmmmmm.

i am not angry or upset with anyone.
i wont be giving bob or anyone else my personal information..and i do not believe in any form of a screening process..

I would hate that too, op. :) I'm just floating out ideas. Want to brainstorm?

sorry, I misunderstood. I was referring to 'false statements' and just trying to explain. I guess I'm still a bit sensitive about this weekend.

I can't say there's been much progress with that, but I do think it's something I'll want at least to try. And starting with particular boards is a great idea, thanks...
