Uh, I know this was a somewhat unusual situation (and that there was pressure on you from before to block Kristen anyway), but isn't that quite a long gap between the blockable event and the actually block (over a month and a half)?
Isn't there (or if not, shouldn't there be), some kind of "statute of limitations"? I know sometimes you run behind on reviewing posts and can't address problem ones immediately, but it would seem fairer to have a cap on that (e.g. any post that "stands" unrebuked for two weeks (or whatever time period) is no longer subject to sanctions).Others (you know who you are <g>):
I know this is a highly charged specific case which may sway your opinion in favor of the block, but (as you yourselves argued when Kristen came back under the circumstances in which she did) consider the precedent. The notion of a block for a post from over a month ago is a bit scary.Michael

I think it was a perfectly reasonable decision. Anyone who was worried that Kristen might actually be dead would want to hear from her, and if she had been blocked that wouldn't have happened (in theory anyway )
I appreciate the fact and am actually a little shocked that Dr. Bob showed some flexibility here.

> MichaelI don't see there's the slightest issue of precedent. It would have been tactless (and moot) for Bob to block a dead poster (had that been fact), but upon her resurrection, it was appropriate to "revitalize" all aspects of her posting here.
If all one need do to avoid a block is to fake one's death, I'd hate to think what sort of a precedent *that* would be.
She had the block coming. It came.

I'm still not exactly certain how blocks work. But my understanding is that once blocked, you begin to accumulate, correct? Then who's to say that by your example people wouldn't take advantage of avoiding very large quantities of "time off" by simply posting exactly what they want and then avoid posting for an extended period of time. I know this is highly unlikely but I think that Dr. Bob really can't make certain exceptions in any case for certain people. That would just be unfair, I believe. I think in this case he played it cool!
This is the end of the thread.
