Lost message before final posting confirmation

Posted by Lasagne on June 18, 2003, at 13:01:20

Hi Dr. Bob:
I have been using your web-site for over a week now. I have found Psycho-Babble to be very helpful.
The only problem I have experienced is that one time when I was in the process of posting a message, intead of making the final confirmation I closed the window and lost what I had just composed. Is there some way your code can be changed so that if somebody accidentally tries to close the window, that they can be prompted with a Yes or No question as to whether they want to continue to finalize the posting of their message or to exit the program and lose the message they just composed?
Just an idea. Maybe you have already addressed this problem, but I didn't have time to read through all the administration postings to see if somebody else had the same complaint.
Thanks, Lasagne

Hmm, interesting idea, thanks... Has anyone seen that elsewhere? It might be possible with Javascript...

OK, I've tried to implement this, but it doesn't always work, because it turns out to be considered problematic, because some sites abuse it to try to keep people from leaving them. But it should work if you use frames:

Have there been any other issues with this? If not, I guess I'll leave it in?

Clicking on a link to one of the books found by an "Amazon" search activates the new "You seem to have closed the posting window without submitting a post" pop-up.

There is a small but real risk of visiting so many pages at amazon.com that the original posting form may become no-longer accessible, but most posters using these links just require a little more information about each before returning to the form and submitting the correct link, and don't want the pop-up.

A possible solution might be to make the Amazon link appear in a new window?

Jonathan.

Good idea, it should do that now. Thanks,

Bob
