I am guessing you are not going to answer these questions but there is no harm in asking them.
Would you personally ever tell a patient something to this effect that "there's nothing more" that can be done for you?
Do you consider telling a depressed patient that they have no chance of ever getting better to be consistent with the Hippocratic oath to "do no harm" considering that a very real implication of such a statement is that the patient should commit suicide?
Finally, do you agree that some people have no chance of EVER responding to treatment?
Your answers would interest me. I understand that you may not want to second guess other docs and also that these questions really have nothing to do with psychobabble administration.

You wouldn't act the way the other psychiatrist did. And, I figure that you have to agree that his answer does at least raise some colorable arguments regarding violating the Hippocratic oath.
