Hi Dr. Bob!

Believe it or not, I wanted to blast "dirk" a LOT harder than I did, considering what he did!

I do agree with you that civility must always be practiced here -

however, I am kind of surprised & disappointed at your mild reaction to dirk -

With consideration for the main mission of this forum, to provide helpful information and encouragement to people who may in some cases be quite desperate and on their last legs, as far as I am concerned, asking someone here if they have considered suicide for their "hopeless" problem, as dirk did, is the SICKEST, MOST PERVERSE, MOST MALICIOUS, AND THE MOST EVIL thing that one could ever do here!

No matter what dirk's "problem" is, I think that dirk should be locked out of here, period!

PS: I am new here; this is a GREAT forum, and I plan to give and get a lot of value here!

regards,

Charlie

Do you think that post could have meant "Are you suicidal?" rather than " Why don't you just go kill yourself?"

But it DID NOT say that. So why bother with the "What ifs" given that there are folks RIGHT NOW on this list considering suicide ?

It said " Have you considered suicide?" which would be a reasonable question to ask someone who is severely depressed. I think if people are in fact considering suicide it is a good idea to ask exactly that question and address it openly. The post DID NOT suggest that anyone should commit suicide.

I agree with Oddipus. I think you are all reading this wrong. It was a direct question, he wasn't telling him to kill himself. Come on now, people.

<< Do you think that post could have meant "Are you suicidal?" rather than " Why don't you just go kill yourself?" >>

sure, it is "possible" that the original author who wrote:

"All sounds pretty hopeless. Have you considered suicide?"

might have merely been extremely tactless and inept at his phraseology here, but I am still new here, and yet it is already quite obvious to me that there are some posters here who are barely hanging on to life by a slim thread, and thus we here must all be VERY CAREFUL and EXTRA CONSIDERATE about one's choice of words, don't you agree?

Anyway, I am gonna do the Christian thing now and just forgive and forget, seeing as how I have made my point and seeing as how the community here has been made aware of the issue.

Hopefully the original poster in question will in the future choose & contemplate his words more carefully when he posts here -

I know that for myself, when I am trying to reply to or lift the spirits of someone here, before I post I carefully read what I write several times to MAKE SURE that my words meant to encourage will not accidentally be misinterpreted and have the opposite effect!

thanks for all the input!

regards,

Charlie

Yes. My first impression of that post was the same as yours. I was surprised that Dr B didn't block him. That's why I went back and looked at it again and came up with the other interpretation. I thought you were probably wondering what on earth Bob was thinking too. That's why I posted to you. No offense intended.

"Always" except in that case? Sorry, but I'm going to block you from posting for a week.

No, but he didn't respond to my request for clarification, so it's hard to know what he was doing. Plus, it seems he's started posting under a different name, so I'm also going to block him from posting for a week.
