Earlier this year you had a guest psychiatrist on Psychobabble for a few days. Do you expect to have another guest in the near future?

I've been waiting for someone to do a Grand Rounds for us that would be of general interest here... FYI, our schedule is at:
http://psychiatry.uchicago.edu/grounds
Or, if you have someone particular in mind, I could try inviting them. Maybe tell me why you're interested in them, and I can pass that on? :-)

Dear Dr. Bob,
I would love to see a true psychotherapist (someone from the old school) rather than a pharmacologist. Perhaps that doesn't lend itself to the quick answers needed on this board, I've just read several of Dr. Irvin Yalom's books (and greatly admire him), so I'm probably thinking in that mode. Anyone else out there interested in that perspective?
Thanks and take care, judy

************************************************How about the King of Psychopharmacology, Stephen Stahl? I've read parts of his book, ESSENTIAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY. He's brilliant, and he communicates his knowledge clearly and effectively.
Last spring, when Dr. Thomas Kramer visited PB, I was in the process of preparing some questions to ask him, but he left earlier than anticipated. I think he was supposed to stay until Friday, but he left by Wednesday, I believe. I was very disappointed.

Do you mean someone might be willing to join us after last time?!!! And you're willing to ask? :)
I agree with Judy. A therapy oriented guest would be an interesting change of pace.

Robert Post, from NIMH, is another good one.

How about a cognitive therapist? Steven Hollon from Vanderbilt will be taking questions at Psychological Babble for the next week...

Thanks, Dr Bob. I hope Dr Hollon may be the first of a series of guest experts who will answer our questions on the Psychological board.
This is from your announcement at the top of http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/psycho/ :
"I'm pleased to announce that Dr. Hollon, Professor of Psychology at Vanderbilt University, has agreed to be our guest expert for a week."
I would like to recommend that you replace "for a week" with "until January 28th" (or whichever date you have agreed with Dr Hollon).
Not all of us visit this board every day; neither do all those who do visit read the announcement before scrolling down to the most recent messages (perhaps an even greater problem on Psychological Babble because the board turns over more slowly); and not all of those who saw your announcement today will still remember, early next week, exactly when they first saw it.
The weeks during which previous guests have accepted questions have led to posts like these:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20020918/msgs/8169.html
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20020918/msgs/8221.html
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20020918/msgs/8024.htmlFor compulsive procrastinators like myself, whom a specified deadline might encourage to delay posting their question until the final hour, this is NOT a good idea. Guest experts, like any other poster, have the right not to reply to any question and are more likely to have time to attend to the questions that reach them first; a previous guest withdrew before the end of his week because he had received an unexpectedly large number of questions. I remember with regret, while writing my eleventh-hour question for Dr Gershon, anxiously reloading the index page every couple of minutes in order to check that your announcement was still there!
I don't think I'm the only babbler who would welcome another expert on bipolar spectrum disorders. I appreciate, however, that you may feel Dr Robert Post's Grand Rounds on February 3rd come too soon after Dr Hollon's guest week.
I shall be away until Sunday and will not have access to the internet, so I'm thanking you in advance in the hope that you will adopt my suggestion :)
Best wishes,
Jonathan.

First I'd like to say that was a really great presentation. The information on the previous studies, as well as the current one, was so clearly explained that it helped me make sense of some of the bits and pieces I'd read over the years. It's also the first time I've heard CT advocated by someone with firsthand experience who didn't dismiss the effectiveness of medication (ok - so perhaps I need to get out more :-) ).
Now for the request? Would you consider archiving the guest speaker announcement that's currently at the top of the Psychological Babble page? Or repeating it in full in a post? As it is now once the week is over that information disappears and all that is left is a bunch of unexplained posts addressed to a mystery name. By the way, I liked the disclosure statement too.

I'll pass that on. :-)

Good idea, maybe in the future I'll post the announcement instead, and then at the top of the page just link to it?

Thanks, it was a suggestion from here. :-)

I suggest you invite Dr William Walsh,Ph.D., chief scientist and founder of Pfeiffer Center in Chicago.Website is www.hriptc.org. The 50-strong team there, including doctors, pharmacists and scientists, have seen 20,000 patients so far and as a physiucian I am amazed at how useful the knowledge I have acquired from them has been for my patients.
This is the end of the thread.
