Narrow minded, control freak moderating

Posted by NLFAmerica on September 12, 2001, at 17:26:19

Im tired of Dr. Bob's narrow minded, control freakish moderation on this board. You cant have a good discussion on this board. If you try to discuss things on Psychobabble which are controversial, you get blocked. The fact of the matter is that there are a lot of problems in psychiatry and it seems if you try to bring this up you get blocked or castigated.

You cant discuss real problems on Dr. Bob's boards. All you can do is be a good little mental patient and ask weak minded questions about psychiatry drugs.

I realize when i say psychiatry should probably be merged into Neurology this is vocationally threatening to many psychiatrists. So what...do you think I care? The fact of the matter is that we are dealing with real human suffering in mental health and many times psychiatrists do not do that great a job at either properly diagnosing or treating people with mental illness. I feel things could be improved a lot by integrating the diagnosing and treatment of the seriously mentally ill into the fields of Neurology...REAL NEUROSCIENCE. That is my personal opinion.

I dont think psychiatry does a good job half the time at either accuractely diagnosing patients or in treating them and getting them into full remission. Sorry...but thats been my experiences and Im not just talking about myself. These boards are HARD evidence of my claims. Look at all the people on these boards and similar ones who get bet full remission, who get misdiagnosed, etc. Clinical Psychiatry is in the dark ages and is hardly high tech or modernized. It needs to be reformed and modernized.

My posts on the medication board while not specifically discussing a particular medication was very relevant to psychiatric medications. It shouldnt have been transferred over to "psychobabble social." As my message is hardly what Id describe as social. Evangelical maybe, educational perhaps, but not social.

It could have stayed over on the other board where it would get more attention.

Nat - When you play in someone else's yard, you have to play by their rules. It's only fair, isn't it?

Besides, cognition and consciousness are just higher order levels of motor function. - Cam

NLF,

I think you have completely misinterpreted the situation. Psycho babble social is not exclusively for "socializing". It is also for social issues. If you look back through the archives there have been serious matters situations discussed there - obviously this week is not going to be typical in any respect. Perhaps the Social board does have less activity on it but moving your thread is an attempt to build that board not to bury your thread. Again if you read the archives you will see this is a consistent pattern.

Further, you were not banned from discussing this issue. Just the opposite. Perhaps you did not notice that the three posts placed on the wrong board after the redirect notice were manually moved in their entirety. Board policy allows them to just be deleted. I think that was a very clear encouragement to continue this discussion and a recognition of its importance.

I'm too upset to even answer this right now. Cam and Jane both point out the problems with your post. I'll just take a moment and ask you not to call Dr. Bob any names -- and I'll try not to call you any.

Oh crap -- try to do me one favor. Think about the bigger picture out there and don't worry about which friggen' board your "cause" is on. Did you give blood today? Did you donate money to the Red Cross? If you live in a larger community, did you see about helping out a stranded traveler?

We are going to make strides in figuring out mental illnesses and brain disorders. And you just have to look at my life to know that not all are one and the same (I'll save that rant for PSB). But today there are some immediate needs. Getting bent out of shape over having the posts redirected (though not deleted) seems so dang trivial. As does the personal attack.

You don't have to stay. If you do, please be civil, or I'll have to be even more control freakish. Thanks,

Bob

Please be civil, your reply could have been worded in a more inviting and understanding manner.

Maybe it's a multiple-personality disorder??

I don't think that's what it is. (The frequent use of aliases is a symptom of one DSM-IV diagnosis, but it's not "multiple personality disorder" (which was renamed, anyway).)
