PB OPEN mumble, mutter grumble grouch

Posted by susan C on August 24, 2001, at 13:29:27

Hello,

here we got going on collecting babblers on a chat (psycho babble open) and the system bumps people off, over and over and over...and they added a voice feature...now, it is true, this would be good if anyof us knew what we are doing, but we don't. And there were some complaints about the message window getting smaller and strange voices coming from the speakers.

Is it possible for us to get a button for the smilie faces, like other yahoo chat sites have?

We make liberal use of the emotions, when some of us have them.

And, best of all, we have appreciated the opportunity to chat in real time. It is a challenge to many of us, and we are learning the etiquette, I think.

Thank you Penny Lane where ever you are and of course the ubiquitous dr dash bob

i had alot of trouble logging on--perhaps due to my drinking/loss of cognition/possible inherent dumbness etc ( :) ) and i'd like to join the chat but was unable to last night. any simplified instructions would be appreciated by this depressive/klonopin-prozac-affected mind.

the drugs chill me out but they make me stoopid. i would hope that it were easier for stoopids to log-on to chat rather than try and fail repeatedly. is there a way to make it easier?

i hate to complain, dr. bob, because i appreciate this site so much. i'm so proud of you for helping the sad-tomato masses and dealing with alot of bullsh*it but staying calm all the while. my only point is that depressives sometimes lack the energy/cognition to do anything even mildly complicated. and to a depressive, just about anything can be complicated.

can you pretend i am a kindergartener? what are the instructions for logging on to chat?

peace & thanks,
sar

Hi Sar,
I'll see if I can answer you. I just learned this myself so all the steps are still pretty fresh in my mind. With any luck one of the pros will come along and correct any mistakes.

1. Select 'Psycho-Babble Open' above search function on this page. (You will need temporary cookies and scripts enabled in your browser. Don't worry about this - they probably already are)

2. Click on 'Sign In' (Upper Right corner) You will be asked for your Yahoo ID and password. This isn't the same as the Psycho Babble ID. If you already have one, enter it and skip to step 8.

3. If you don't have one select 'sign up now' and fill in the blanks. If you don't want to give them your email address you can sign up for Yahoo email too.

4. When you're done you'll get "Continue to yahoo groups". This will bring you back to the 'Psycho Babble Open' screen.

5. Select 'Join this Group', upper right.

6. Fill out the questions. I chose no email.

7. Click on 'join' at the bottom. I think this will bring you back to the PB Open screen but there will now be a list of active choices on the left including Chat.

8. From the PB Open screen select 'Chat' from the list on the left. You may be prompted to download some yahoo chat software the first time. You'll see the list of people chatting, if any, on the right.

Let me know if this works.

Hi Susan, Jane, Sar, et al,

Sorry, but I think Yahoo in general sucks... I know I'll be labeled a heretic, but, jeeze, I still cannot get the chat window to open so that I can see it fully so I can type in stuff, but I'm not able to read/proof it, or read anybody's replies...

It's not my computer (11-month old iMac, ruby red if you wanna know, the color's been discontinued, eat yerr heart out!).
It's not that I didn't download the IM software (I did, twice, and still no chat window visible).
It's not even that I'm computer illiterate (my last job was very computer intensive, I pretty much can fight myself out of any box, and even write a little code).

So... vas gibt?

Any suggestions appreciated...

Wendy

Wendy

I understand your frustration. The same has happened to me. What I've noticed is that my window has to maximized before I attempt to open the chat. Also do not be running any other programs and make sure you don't have any discs in the pc.

Hope this works.

Keep trying!

Thlis is iris2. I did all this as far as I can remember now. But when I click on "chat" in "Open" my entire browser disappears. I allowed all cookies and also tried allowiing this specific web page and it made no difference.

ANy ideas?

irene
