I'm receiving e-mails from someone concerning PSB and it is rather hostile in tone. I don't know this person nor have any idea how he/she would've gotten my e-mail address. Are e-mail addresses available to anyone?

I don't give out email addresses. They're available, however, if they're included with posts.
Your email address is also available to members of an eGroup you post to. And they can email you through the eGroups web site even if you don't post.
If you receive an abusive email related to your Psycho-Babble participation, please forward it directly to me (with all its headers, if you know how to do that). FWIW, I'll then block any Psycho-Babble or associated eGroup registrations using that email address.
Abusive email can also be reported to the email service provider that delivered it -- postmaster@whatever.com -- though that isn't guaranteed to result in any action.
*Threatening* email can also be reported to your local police department, who can subpoena the email service provider in an effort to identify the individual to bring charges against them (and is more likely to result in that account being cancelled, at least).
This is a downside of this online biz. :-( Hang tough,
Bob

Coral-
I too recieved an abusive e-mail awhile back - over my opinion on a book, of all things. The guy called me an "uninformed idiot" and all kinds of choice words. I wasn't so upset about the letter...I just didn't feel strongly enough about the subject to argue with the guy, although I would have gladly discussed it with him in a civil way...but I couldn't figure out how he got my e-mail address from PSB. Finally I remembered
that I did it myself! I had been posting to someone who was having serious problems, considering suicide or something drastic, and I gave her my e-mail address if she wanted to write me directly. (She never did, and I forgot about it.) Well, duh! It never even occurred to me that someone might use the info to send me nasty letters. That will learn me!

Dear Gracie,
Thank you. While it's possible and I haven't taken time to go through ALL of my postings (sheesh.... I obviously type-talk a lot), I don't recall posting my e-mail address.
But, thank you for your kindness!

If you've signed up for Psycho Babble Open I believe it is possible to see at least a portion of your e-mail addy (an English term I've learned and love) by clicking on the Members link there. At least I know I can. If you click on the partial e-mail link, it opens an e-mail window that allows you to send that person mail even though you can't see the entire address. This is very likely where people are getting other's addresses from.

Greg, I had the same thought last night--lots of us are signed up in PBOpen, and that may be how someone was able to email people hostile messages.
YOu can't see the whole addy, but then again, some addys are really easy to figure out, like soandso@y........ or @h......... or @a...........
It may not be the most obvious isp, but it could be and someone who is determined to send a hostile post might feel it worth trying.
OTOH, if they are just posting through the PBO egroup message system, then they won't get anyone's full addy unless that person responds to the email.

Hi Nikkers!
Psycho Babble Open. An egroups chat site. I've never been there, but I'm sure someone here can send you in the right direction if you're interested in joining.
Hugs,
