psilocybin for depression ?

Posted by henryo on November 1, 2023, at 15:53:37

I took a mild dose of magic mushrooms three years ago and found it to to highly beneficial for my 20 plus years of treatment resistent depression. It was the most beneficial med for depression I have taken to date. I tried quite a few meds over the years, if you care to research previous posts. Or just take my word for it that I suffered. My theory is that psilocybin helps disrupt or break-up the neural pathways that became "grooved" with my depression and allows new neural connections to spread. That is my conjecture.

Please keep in mind this is all my opinion. I do not think the unpleasant inebriation or "trip" has anything to do with the positive effect. It was not a soul changing transformative experience or insight. I think is that it was the subsequent chemical reset that helped lift my depression. As my shrink at the time said, it seemed to "knock the rust off." So these days I have begun to grow mushrooms myself, as buying it from "a guy" is both illegal and unnevring. I certainly wish there were a pharmaceutical standardized source for psilocybin. I do not like the high very much but I think the anti depressant effect that lasts for several months afterwards in my case is undeniable. I look forward to a day soon when psilocybin will be standardized, accepted and understood as a medication for depression. I would love to hear about other peoples recent experiences with psilocybin.

Couldn't agree more.

It's currently legal for prescription in Australia, but under conditions that don't interest me much.

I'd just like to have a supply of goldtops in my fridge.

Hi, Sigi.

What are goldtops?

What are your thoughts regarding micro-dosing psilocybin?

For mice given ketamine, the critical period of social reward learning stayed open in the mice for 48 hours. With psilocybin, the open state lasted two weeks. For mice given MDMA, LSD and ibogaine, the critical period remained open for two, three and four weeks, respectively.

The researchers say the length of time that the critical period stayed open in mice seems to roughly parallel the average length of time that people self-report the acute effects of each psychedelic drug.

"This relationship gives us another clue that the duration of psychedelic drugs' acute effects may be the reason why each drug may have longer or shorter effects on opening the critical period," says Dölen.

Hi Scott
Gold tops is the colloquial name for psiolcybe cubensis. Grows in warm humid conditions always outt of cow sh*t.
Microdosing always suited me. You can always take less. Less is more.
I imagine all members of the genus psiloscybe contain some psilocybin.
There's nothing moreish about it as with other reward type drugs.

If I relapse, it makes sense to me to remain on my current drug treatment and use psilocybin as an adjunct. My hope is that micro-dosing psilocybin will increase neuroplasticity and facilitae the "recapturing" of a treatment response.

I really appreciate your post. Thank you.
