AWESOME book on PSYCHEDELICS and psychiatry

Posted by jay2112 on February 11, 2022, at 13:29:46

Just started reading "How To Change Your Mind - What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence" by Michael Pollan.

AMAZING so far.
The beginning of the book talks about the use of Psilocybin with Cancer patients suffering from severe anxiety and depression. What is amazing is that the psilocybin therapy gives the patient's a who;e new outlook, to step around fear, and to learn to live in the 'moment'...which is what meditation kind of teaches us.

Amazing too...that the psilocybin works on serotonin, and I too have had similar experiences with taking one large dose of an SSRI. Like, a single 25mg dose of escitalopram, and I would add a small dose of a muscle relaxant, usually later in the evening. Then, I would put onsome relaxing music, and I would think about those emotional moments that really hurt me, like the deaths of people close to me.

This is what the book also talks about....how using psychedelics can bring people back to experiencing both the most joyous and hurtful moments..and learning to live with them, instead of them causing so much pain.

Now, you can get this book, and many others, for free, at Library Genesis...one of the url's is libgen.rs They are in pdf, or epub format, usually.

Btw, neither here nor there, but a close family member did some of the original LSD therapy when it was legal. It did change their life.

Yes, he is also a very persuasive writer...just so, so good! That is incredible also that you had a family member be allowed to do some of the drug therapy. This really seems like possibly the biggest game changer for mental health in particular, and it is all very current. Funny, I was just reading an article how the Canadian government is giving both legal permission and funds for start-ups to fast-track psychedelics in mental health use.

If you go to that website I mentioned, you can get the e-books checked out for free. Just type in 'Library Genesis' to google if needed.

Cheers!

The governments don't like psychedelic treatments, because people tend to think less economically.

I agree. It's a great book. And Michael Pollan gives great interviews, like this one.
