I am surprised I havent seen more posts regarding ketamine. Specifically I have had four infusions and can definitively say after the fourth treatment my depression was twice as bad if not more than when I started. I can only surmise that added glutamate is not what I need. An awful experience for me but of course I hope others the opposite.

I have never heard that, but I too sometimes get worse by things that are supposed to make people better. I refrain from Ketamine because I am vulnerable for psychosis.

I am shocked too as I thought it would be a guaranteed ticket to feeling better. So frustrating.

Ketamine doesn't increase or enhance glutamate, does it? I thought it was the opposite.

It increases glutamate big time but is also an nmda antagonist.

So weird (and interesting) bc I thought (obviously incorrectly) that excess glutamate is implicated in chronic pain (which I have) and I did very well w a transfusion, which helped my mood and my pain level.
So now you know it does not work for you. Have you tried a medication that affects glutamate in an 'opposite' way? Maybe through a psychopharmacologist.

When I was in hospital, they claimed that 70% respond.

Well, it was a negative response. I hate those. I always ask myself if i wil return back to my old normal or if the negative changes will stick.

The actions are complex (some enhancement and some inhibition).

Its like a wired too bright rush of depression and anxiety that comes in waves. Totally the opposite of relaxed and uplifting.

Ketamine infusions didnt work well for me either after 6 months. I did really well for those 6 months (I thought) after taking an initial 12 infusions with 2 boosters. I crashed and took 9 more infusions hoping to get back to where I was for those 6 months and my anxiety and depression are worse now than they were before I took the treatments. I wish the best for you - the clinic I went to didnt mention anything about previous bouts with psychosis on my intake forms that I remember but Ive seen articles since I took the treatments that say it can make psychosis worse and I was diagnosed with a psychotic break in 2001. Spent a whole lot of money to get worse!

I am so sorry to hear this what a nightmare. It certainly aggravated my situation a huge amount. I cut off after four as I was heading down hill quickly. The fourth treatments disassociation was awful. I believe it will wear off for you in time. Hang in there.
