>It could. Do you have any early warning signs of approaching psychosis? Then you can immediately quit the bupropion in time.

i dunno. the big problem with bupropion, according to my current treatment provider, is more exacerbating anxiety and/or a bit of jittery-making, not so much causing psychosis.
i did a quick Google-ing, and it looks like she's spot on...its been used with OK results (I mean, for an antidepressant) in chronic Schizophrenia, both for mood issues and for smoking cessation.
honestly, my -big- concern for you, personally...and this is just me, speaking as a complete non-expert, throwing things out there...
would be potential drug-drug interactions. antidepressants tend to boost neuroleptic blood levels. many neuroleptics boost antidepressant blood levels.

In the past it did not make me jittery at all. More self confident.

I get the self-confidence myself, from stronger dopamine reuptake inhibitors than bupropion, eg. methylphenidate.

>Therefore, stimulants can work indirectly, via boosting self-confidence, to treat social anxiety/phobia. For me they definitely do, but as always, there are individual differences, and I imagine that some people get the opposite effect, at least in terms of nervousness.

the confidence boost and I think an increase in sociability were noted -very early- on in the human use of Benzedrine in tablet form. then the Benzedrine people paid some prominent shrinks $$$ to push it for some forms of depressive reaction and such, and...
(get ready for cliche...) 'the rest, as they say, is history...'

wellbutrin? yes. it will improve some cognitive functions, but its a weak dopmaine reptake inhibitor, its more on norepinephrine uptake. I took wellbutrin ih high school, that was first antidepressant i ever took, one the reasons, both for depression and ADHD symptoms. I took adderall in high school and i told my psychiatrist about wellbutrin, he said yes, it used as an addon to a stimulant.
It took about 2-3 weeks to start working, but after that time, i was in ISS, i hated going to classes because people didn't like, i would skip classes so won't have to deal with aggression from people, i got caught i was in hallway sitting down reading over homework assignments, they put me ISS lol, but when i was in there, the work you have do, i started noticing i was more awake and motivated to do the work, when i ran cross country would show up at 5:30am andd do runs all over the school grounds, then class. I took the wellbutrin and ... you know adderall makes you kinda motivated to do things, wellbutrin did something similar but i wasn't as potent, but i remember during the day, feeling it release again and i was activated and in a better mood.
But anxiety is a big things with bupropion, i actually stopped taking it because, i went up the highest dose of it, 450mg, it was working, i started noticing i could not take naps during the day, and everywhere i went, even have fun, i would have this edgy, almost dread feeling of slight anxiety. It's due to the norepinephrine increase.
In medical research, they found that large doses of bupropion had a slight psychostimulant effect like methylphenidate, doses like high doses, above the recommended, but the thing is need to know, too high dose of wellbutrin can cause seizures, that's one of the reasons i got off it. Sitting at denny's having lunch, i took 650 mg XL form, i sat there and just could feel this weird, feeling coming on. I had deal with it all day. Terrible.
But still definitely ask your doctor, its not like a ADD meds, but its similar and its also antidepressant. Watch out for anxiety, and work with the dose. You should be fine.

wellbutrin and seroquel are popular in prisons, and i've read about bupropion abuse, but this is thing, i went up to 450mg, i was more active, alert than a normal state. I had slight psychostimulant effect, but nothing compared to the traditional stimulants.
One day, i read since it was a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, i thought it could work ritalin or methylphenidate, because what i read, well....i was taking the XL form, that form releases in the morning, mid day, and then in the afternoon. I remember around 5pm i was tired, and felt a slight kick to bring energy levels up. But, i've done stupid things, and one of them was i took 650mg XL thinking it would work like ritalin, i was more awake, just a slight enhancement of cognitive abilities, but later on i felt this seizure feeling, i was sitting at denny's having lunch, and all of sudden i froze up, didn't know whats going on. Then i read what higher doses do. I know this...off subject. I just had write an experience i had. It's a weak dopamine reuptake inhibitor, its more on norepinephrine, why causes activation and stimulation.

I will ask my psychiatrist. I trust his judgement.

It did the opposite to me, in just a couple hours after dosing. It made me cloudy, disoriented, nervous and agitated. Not good for taking a test.
If you want it for that purpose, then just do Adderall or street amphetamines. One time.
This is the end of the thread.
