Cyp 450 metabolism issues with most meds. Big time interactions. Blood levels can go through the roof. You need to be aware of that if you are on it!!!

It can interact with other meds (increasing blood level), which may, or may not be a good thing. In the US, I don't think it is approved for depression (only OCD I think) even though there is evidence that it does work for depression / anxiety.

Not really sure. Perhaps other meds have been marketed harder.

Joe it works. Quite a few pages to get to the benzos. But never knew it also effected the clearance of all these other meds.

Exactly. "Fluvoxamine is a potent CYP1A2 and CYP2C19 inhibitor, and a moderate CYP2C9, CYP2D6, and CYP3A4 inhibitor".

If you take drugs that are metabolized by these enzymes, you will have higher blood levels of these drugs.

My doctor at least. Yes, I think so. Imagine you go unconscious and they kill you by an overdose of a med that is metabolized by these liver pathways. Sometimes they get people on Luvox on purpose when they want to increase the levels of something. That's what my doctor told me.

I too dallied over Luvox. I felt like complete crap when I tried because the Neuroleptic levels went too high! And I had to beg my doctor.

I don't feel that is true. Why wouldn't the doctor just up the dose of the med he wants higher . I sure would hope a doctor knows all your medications and wouldn't give you a med that could harm you. I still get RN newsletters meant for doctors also and luvox is the best medication for OCD.

i think luvox was late to the game in 1994...prozac,zoloft and paxil were already out and it was manufactured by a small company from belgium called solvay...even though available in europe since 1983
