Stuck on Nardil discontinuation...suggestions?

Posted by porkpiehat on January 18, 2019, at 12:05:02

I'm trying to determine what course to take here...

I decided to come off Nardil due to emotional numbness/detachment, pervasive sense of fear, and compulsive/dangerous behavior.

on dropping from 45 to 30 slowly first morning dread and depression came back...It is less now but replaced by fractured thinking and confusion bordering on amnesia, lack of executive function, and increasing anxiety/flat-footedness around clients and in public. OMG and so much Nausea. Compulsive activity and weight has already dropped, sex drive is ramping back up.

My daily cycle for the last two weeks is: wake up sad and/or confused. Take 15 mgs Nardil, 100 mgs of Lamictal, 50 mgs of modafinil. Got me going but almost makes me more confused until I take a small amount of klonopin. Nausea ugh...By brain is spinning with self-obsessed thoughts instead of engaging in my job.

I crash after lunch and then crash further taking another full or half pill of Nardil and 25 lamictal in the late afternoon. Start getting very impatient again. Have to take 2.5 mg ritalin to keep going and then I'm so verbally full of garbage and oversharing. After a bit I feel relatively normal, but a little impulsive like before I dropped down, for the rest of the day. Cycle begins again in the morning.

I feel like I'm stuck at an impasse...afraid to go any lower because I don't want my original symptoms back, and not sure what to take next. I had a thought of going back up and adding tianeptine; lyrica or phenibut; and/or agomelatine for apathy and the weird fear/anxiety...All of them are here on on their way. My pdoc, who is mostly useless on the topic on MAOIs, wouldn't be on board with them obviously.

Also thought about using them to wean off but which one? they each look attractive in their own way, and I'm just going off the effing rails.

Lyrica may be a decent option for helping with withdrawal and/or anxiety. Some of the withdrawal from Nardil may be due to a drop in gaba levels. You could try adding some niacin and / or vitamin b6. Magensium also may help some.

You may even be able to take small doses of tryptophan to help with withdrawal.

I second this recommendation.

FWIW I'm MAOI free for about 30 days! There were a lot of ups and downs, scattered and fractured thinking, rage, confusion, social anxiety.

I added tianeptine sulfate and it seems to help me from scraping bottom. not sure what it's doing now if anything. Certainly helped with nausea.

Now I'm just taking 100-150 mgs lamictal, .35 klonopin at night, and 25mg tianeptine. PRN: 2.5mgs ritalin, propranolol for anger and anxiety, and agmatine sulfate.

Both tianeptine and Lamictal (brand name) give me headaches, so now I'm battling a mother migraine and nausea. I'm back to dealing with the side effects of headaches, neck and esophageal spasm, tight throat, and ruminative anxiety from the Lamictal, a lot of which was obscured by the loads of other meds.

I can sleep without any meds through the night and wake up at 7am for the first time in years, which is nice.

Social anxiety is not handled. I'm not flat out depressed and empty but I don't have much drive. This feels weird compared to my compuslive behavior on MOAIs. I feel like too much tianeptine makes me calm but a little too calm and disinterested. It might be boosting my sex drive.

The T creates some confusion although when mixed with the lamictal it's pretty bad. Always much worse in the AM than the afternoon.

Also getting used to not really needing stimulants to get through the day. I'm way more sensitive to them now and I think they create bounce-back confusion and anger.

I ate Blue Cheese last night :) Hopefully its not where the nausea is coming from.
