Agmatine

Posted by linkadge on July 14, 2018, at 9:00:00

Has anybody else used this stuff. Technically, it is a supplement (related to arginine), but supposedly has rapid acting antidepressant effects, with a mechanism similar to ketamine.

I bought some (very cheap) and have been trying it out.

I took 500mg. There was definitely an effect in a short period of time.

I will post follow ups. The medical cannabis is still helping (more so with somatic symptoms / insomnia). I have had depression creep back more recently. I have effexor, but wanted to try something else first.

Worked immediately it seemed to me, and caused cold sores straight away too.

NAD+ precursors (NMN) did the same but not as quickly.

I liked both of them and would like to be able to take them.

Yes, agmatine does work immediately! I noticed an effect within about 20-30 min of taking.

Cold sores? Is there a mechanism for that? I have noticed no side effects whatsoever.

I'm very happy about findings this - cheap - and seems to have a positive effect.

I don't know why. A bit like arginine and ornithone?

I was especially disappointed by NMN doing that to me. I retried it and the same thing happened.

Strange. I'll keep an eye out for that.

The AD effect is very quick. However, I don't necessarily think it is a long lasting (i.e. days / weeks aka ketamine).

I seem to notice a dropoff after about 24 hours. But, its definately an antidepression effect (not like a stimulant).

Seems to be agreeeing with me. Keep my fingers crossed.

If taken daily, would this work like a regular antidepressant, creating a sustained (24 hour) effect?

Not entirely sure. We'll see how it goes.

Caused wicked depression for me. Used it for OCD for glutamate modulating properties. Same with Sarcosine.

Strange.

I used it a few times and haven't used it since (generally depression free for a few weeks) but not sure if it was due to the agmatine. I often have spontaneous remissions.

There arent many supplements that work for me other than vitamin d, NAC and inositol. How is the CBD going?

There is still a benefit from the CBD. It's effect seems pretty broad spectrum.

However, the cost is a bit high, so I can't take as much as I likely benefit from.

Anyone else try this for depression?

I see some chatter about it on reddit - ranging from it is the greatest thing to it makes depression worse
