Quetiapine + Weight gain.

Posted by Escapee on July 19, 2016, at 10:44:26

Im sure this issue has come up several times before. Ive put on at least 3 stone / 90kg. Ive been on it for over 2yrs now. At the beginning I was back and forth from 50mg to 100mg. Now I'm taking 250mg daily. I small dose for some im sure.
But I really doubting that it does me any good at all. I see my pdoc late August. Seeing my GP today. I'm going suggest I drop the dose to 100mg. See what happens. I have a feeling not alot will happen.

Quick question for quetiapine users, past and present: Did u put on weight
At what dose could you tolerate it.
If u stopped it because of weight, how long until the weight started to come off:

Both amitriptyline and quetiapine causes weight gain though..

Have you tried abilify or risperidone?

What are your disorders?

Risperidone is very good if you do want to keep a stable antipsychotic effect but not gain any weight, at least for me.

And abilify i dropped weight on, but keep that low.

If you suffer from paranoia, then i would change to paliperidone (INVEGA), it was verư effective for me at least.´

I had to stop quetiapine cause i got hypoglycemia, so i would monitor your blood sugar if you have put on that much weight.

There is a way out from this weight gain, but i need to know more about you before i can give you tips.

Kind regards / J

I can't recall the dose - 200mg? - and also gained weight fast. I came off it because of the rapid weight gain and because it did me no good anyway.
I would like to point out that all the AAPs caused rapid weight gain and ON NONE OF THEM did I eat more. I was not hungry, I increased my exercise because I felt better on most, but I still put on a minimum of 2 pounds/week.
As for the weight just coming off, didn't happen. I had to diet severely to lose 45 of 55 that I gained.

If you cant or dont want to ditch Seroquel, try Metformin against weight gain. It works for me. Very well.

Thanks for peoples comments and sugestions. I've been on Quetiapine, 50-100mg for several years already. I could handle 100mg. Probably some weight gain, previously blamed on beer or lack of excersise. But 250mg quick weight gain. Nevermind, im ditching everything and going way back to Nardil. Although, something tells me to stay on a small 100mg dose of quetiapine as I'll probably end up needing some augmentation anyway. And I really need that confidence boost from Nardil to get me back into the gym!
