Babble mail/ Babble chat

Posted by J Kelly on March 19, 2016, at 15:43:50

I hope I'm not being insensitive by posting this here. Its just that it seems this is the only board being currently used.

What is the proper etiquette regarding babblemail/babblechat?

I've never used Babblechat. I've only used babblemail a few times upon invitation.

Last night I saw someone was on babblechat and I would have liked to join but I wasn't sure about the invitation thing. Now I think it was a lone poster who would have liked company. I don't know.

Should one only use the babblemail/babblechat features by invitation?

I couldn't find good answers regarding these issues on the site.

So twice now I've tried to join babble chat with no luck. Do I need to join or download something? Ugh. I want to throw something. Time to get offline.

No, it's not you or anything to download. There's no one using it most of the time.
Sorry!
Don't leave, though. We talk in Social as well.

That's Chat, excuse me.

For Babblemail, there are directions in the FAQ. Let me know if you have problems. If it is with getting Babble to recognise your email account, Dr Bob will have to help. Just email him.

Hi ClearSkies,

Thanks for the posts. Chat just doesn't work for me. I can read another's post but I cant seem to interact at all. Oh well. I will visit Social.

My babblemail works fine, I just don't know if people use it with out invitation. I don't want to impose on someone if they aren't expecting it.
Not a big deal.

Thanks again :)

You can babblemail me if you'd like.

Shouldn't you buy me dinner first?

(It's okay I'm saving you for an emergency should one arise)

Hi Jade,

One problem many of us have in chat is that the screen does not automatically refresh when we're in chat. I think it depends on the browser you are using and what settings you have. For example I usually have my browser set not to allow the page to automatically reload but that means that when I'm in chat I only see the text that was there when I arrived - not anything I type or anyone else types after I arrive. A workaround for this is to click on the "change room" button without selecting a new room. This forces a refresh.

Chat is NOT by invitation. It's not that active right now but it has always been open to anyone who wants to come in.

I can't speak to any specific etiquette on babble mail. I never thought about it but I would think that anyone who really didn't want contact could either turn it off or just ignore messages they don't feel like answering. I'd also guess that many people like me signed up with an email account that they don't check frequently so not getting a reply doesn't necessarily mean you are being ignored.

This is probably the problem.

Got it. I may never use either but just wanted to know the lay of the land :)
