It makes sense to me. Now, they have to build on the idea and determine if aggressive pruning is the major contributor to the etiology of schizophrenia. I read that the c4 gene, located on chromosome 6, is the most robust genetic signal found to date.

It seems neurogenesis is the opposite of pruning?

Then maybe Rapastinel and NRX-1074 are actually GOOD for schizophrenia.

Most ADs are NOT.

But the new ones may be!

That's an excellent idea. I hadn't thought of that. However, these drugs would have to perform in locations other than the hippocampus and restricted areas of subcortical white matter.

I think the idea is to turn off or replace the damaging C4 gene or block the actions of its expressed protein. It might be some sort of autoimmune thing.

Thank you. I can't comment on the science itself, but I will say I'm glad funding and work is focussed on this. Sciences amazes me. I think of the discoveries and treatments to be found after my lifetime. Then I think about what my kid will see.
