lorazepam is used alot in hospitals, when i went to a psych they gave me ativan and zyprexa and at the time i was taking xanax 2mg, they refused and gave ativan......for the withdrawl......
i took lorazepam about 10 years ago in 05, it mainly just relaxes you, it's not strongly sedating like klonopin, and klono can make people depressed because of it's slowing.... but you know everyone is diffrent, but i rerember ativan relaxed my muscles.....but i would have to take higher doses to get anxiety free and sleep
xanax is kind of a mood enhancer with antianxiety properties, an thats why it's been popular,.....

Ativan I think is slightly less potent than Klonopin. It hits faster, its available in injection form, and its been around forever, so docs are very familiar with it. With xanax becoming less and less popular because of its bad rep, ativan is becoming more and more the standard go-to Benzo for...everything, it seems. Klonopin can cause and/or worsen depression, plus its also hard to taper, so...yeah. Ativan seems a good choice compared to some of the alternatives.
Having said that...a lot of the benzo-related problems could be reduced if docs would use good ole Valium more often. Long acting, easier to taper, available in many dosages, available in injection form...it works fast, too. But, hey...Valium has a rep as "Mother's little helper," so...not so much.
That's one big problem I have with psychiatry...prescribing habits are often rooted in everything but science and available data. Company-backed data, money, trends, all that.

Theres no question klonopin is more potent than ativan. its been tested klonopin 0.5-1 Ativan however what people dont always realise is that ativan binds to the bz complex extremeley tightly and this i know from personal experience can cause withdrawal reactions very quickly. also it means that despite ativans short half life it remains in the system longer than than you would think coming back to the point i made about its ' binding affinity' regards pb
