Hi,
I just started Effexor. I am not very keen on it and also don't really expect much from it. I alrady tried Cymbalta up to 120mg and it also did nothing so why should Effexor?
What also scares me about Effexor is the withdrawal issues which seem to be very bad for some people.
And I also heard that Effexor when you go above 225mg can cause heart attacks! But my pdoc said that you can go up to 300mg. In the instruction leaflet it even says up to 375mg!Has anyone been that high?
I imagine that getting off Effexor when you're used to such a high dose might be impossible then you're stuck on it forever.Another issue is that I also take Vyvanse. And I dont know if high doses Effexor + Amphetamines might not be too risky because of serotonin syndrome. There is a case report of serotonin syndrome from Effexor + Amphetamines.

not sure about what would happen because i've never taken effexor......but effexor is suppost to be stimulating, i one time took 600mg of wellbutrin in the past, and noticed increased anxiety, some enhanced concentration, and increased alertness, but also a aura feeling (because it's can cause siezures above 450mg)
I think that's above max dose which is 225mg......i take prozac at 80mg, and it doesnt really have any anxiety or unwanted side effects, it does make me feel a bit flat sometimes.....
a doctor always can make an expeption in a case to rise it higher than the recommended dose, but side effects are known more above 225mg

I too Cymbalta and had a good response to it. I took Effexor and it did nothing. Every drug is a different molecule, so you never know what the effects are going to be.
> What also scares me about Effexor is the withdrawal issues which seem to be very bad for some people.
Oh, boy, there a lot of horror stories out there. The truth is you should titrate off Effexor slowly just to be judicious. I quit it cold turkey, no problem.
> And I also heard that Effexor when you go above 225mg can cause heart attacks!
No. It does not cause heart attacks. What websites are you getting your drug info from?
> Has anyone been that high?
I've been that high. high as a kite, dude. And yes I've been on doses as high as 300 mg.
> I imagine that getting off Effexor when you're used to such a high dose might be impossible then you're stuck on it forever.
No.
>I dont know if high doses Effexor + Amphetamines might not be too risky because of serotonin syndrome.
The last time I checked, amphetamines don't release serotonin, so I don't know how SS could happen.
>There is a case report of serotonin syndrome from Effexor + Amphetamines.
1 case report is not worth much. Show it to me...
This is the end of the thread.
