since i've been on zyprexa, it's basically been a good med for me, before i just have erratic mood shifts, and thats why i was put on it, and i've noticed over all these years the calmness it produces, even when i was ripped off xanax, it produced a calmness and stability, and much less irrtitible during the day......yet the con of it, it makes me kinda blunted and gained alot of weight, but i tried to stop it cold turkey a couple months ago and had horrible withdrawl reaction, i didnt take it for 4 days, the first 2 days i noticed much increased energy and personality perkness, but then after about the 3rd day into the 4th, i started having major chemcial changes, i started basically skitzing.....horrible anxiety, rush thoughts, i had to put a stop to it and take 30mg, and take large amounts of lamotragine around the clock to prevent this tiniging feeling like a sieuzre because of the anxiety......and personally i do not like lamotragine, and i was a robot, i nearly took around 600-800mg of lamictal (not at once) but 200mg tablets 3-4 times daily to stop the sieuzre feelings........so stopping zyprexa at the large doses causes withdrawl reactions......
i mean, like i said it's a good med for me, it makes things feel calm and stable, but at the same time i lose kinda the perkiness for life, and feel kinda sedated calm and not get excited extremly about things, right now if i decide to take it, i think i am, but i would lose the calmness i feel, but to choose that or to feel perky and back to rush life feeling, it's ... well im gonna continue it, but maybe some days ill skip a dose, or take 10mg to feel back to normal
i mean, when i stopped taking it i realizing this was what i used to be like .... hyper, zestful, i was like alot of this gloom calmness is not me, and i have been on it for 5 years and forgot who i used to be off it......
keep it, maybe some days reduce dose, or skip 1 day and be back to life, it's just .. i've had this sedatedness for a while, years and knowing it's not really me, it's the zyprexa......
but it'sa good med for serious manic cases, and bipolar matience ....... but to take it for years it does cause some blunting effects

but ... i just took it about an hour ago and im starting to feel the sedation, it's not a euphoric drug, so i don't want to implicate that, but it has made my mood stablity better, but ... it just blunts and sedates, yet not in a bad way, that's it's job and why it's used because people who have schizophenia syptoms, a long term treatment of olanzipine can improve their symptoms, and live a stable life......and yea...so no voices, or paranoia, but weight gain and sleepness feeling through out most of the day even during activites that are fast paced, is one of it's side effects, i lose a small amount of weight when i stopped it for 4 days, but mainly my body speeded up too much, anxiety, and kinda went hay wire on the 4th day.....
i don't know, i want be back as that hyper, alert (and disorganized) but if i stop it, i do get unstable in moods.....lamotragine is not really a good med but it took care of it when the zyprexa was stopped.......
anyways, im just writing my thoughts about it, im about to sleep.....
that's all.....night

You are absolutely right about Zyprexa acting as a potent antimanic. For me, it was absolutely clean, if not somewhat energizing.
How much Zyprexa are you taking?
Perhaps it is time for you to reduce the dosage so as to avoid sedation. At the very least, you can divide your doses during the day.

You could try Metformin for the weight gain and if you have elevated triglycerides and cholesterol.
It works like a charm, i am losing weight even though i am on two sedating APs.

I think time will work in your favor with this.
And be sure -if you ask for Metformin- that your doctor checks your kidney every 3 months.

I have the same thing with zyprexa. No zest for life. When I take it I'm more ingaged. Problem is I get carried away and get too focused on some thing and make a fool of myself. One time off z for 5 days and I sent retarded messages that made no sense to a girlfriend. My thoughts are too much and I can't focus on reality. I get demented. Also the anxiety is too much. I also get bed riden. But I feel a better connection with people off it. Unfortunatly its too much and I act really weird. I also think things that aren't real. Even though more engaged. Maybe its all in my head when I'm off it. But I like the calmness from it, its reasuring, comforting, and more comfortable in my own skin. I make more sense on it. I usually end up pissing everyone off, when off it. Then there is the can't eat or sleep off it. Which I had before taking it. I was down to 150lbs before taking z. I just feel complete now when I take the right dose of z.
I like to skip a dose of z every once in a while. But more than that and I go down hill fast. I used to go for months at a time off z. I would always last about a week and end up losing my job and end up bed riden, not eating or sleeping. Then I would go back on it and slowly regain functionality and get my job back. It would take a couple weeks and my mind would slowly sort itself out and I was normal again with brain training (doing things that are normal with my head back in reality). Needless to say I learned my lesson about quiting the z. The same thing happens every time, for the last 20 years.
I like the sedation. It gives a calm cool and colective feeling.
Anyways I could talk about this stuff all day. So I will get off now..

I find if I take 10mg just as a one off, I sleep excessively the next day but the following two or three5 days after that I feel calm and energised.
I don't know if you suffer from straight forward depression and anxiety but in any case maybe you should speak to your psychiatrist about taking it every other day or every two days.
