PRN--ativan, xanax
Long term--2mgs/day Klonopin is fairly standard.

From what I've been reading, Phenibut. However addictive, I think it would be beneficial for giving once a year situations: speech, job interview etc.

but this is something that, while taking a benzo or short-acting anti-anxiety drug can help for a time-limited issue. should really be dealt with through therapy. Group therapy in particular.

> Group therapy for social anxiety?
Yes. That's what it's for. To teach people to interact with others in a structured and empathetic setting. Ultimately the cure for social anxiety is to learn how to socialize. Just like the cure for fear of flying is to learn how to fly without panicking. People go to therapy for these things.

Honestly, cognitive behavioral therapy is as effective or more effective than medication in the treatment of social anxiety disorder.
If medication is to be considered, I would recommend an SSRI such as Zoloft, which has been studied well in SAD. Any SSRI will work.
Topomax is another drug which has been studies in the treatment of SAD.

Its okay. Things have spiraled out of control a bit over a girl.
I would never drink alcohol for temporary distress. So why would i take a benzo for that?
I think i should see that i take benzos only for severe social anxiety and nothing else. That way i wont use it more often than once a month.

> I would never drink alcohol for temporary distress. So why would i take a benzo for that? Why do you equate those to things? Benzos and alcohol. They don't feel even remotely similar to me. Also, one is a medication prescribed by a doctor, the other is a recreational drug used to induce a euphoric state.
What do you think you will do? Medication is only one option...it's an option that comes up here a lot because this is a message board about psychiatric medication.

I equate them because i use them for the same purpose. I wouldnt even call it social anxiety.
It is more of love shyness. No fun.

Youu know, if you increase your Effexor it might help out.
And don't be frightened of benzos.

People who have taken a benzodiazepine for three months or less have about the same dementia risk as those who had never taken one. Taking the drug for three to six months raises the risk of developing Alzheimers by 32%, and taking it for more than six months boosted the risk by 84%.
That's what the study found.

I dunno. my grandfather had electroshock in the 70s at some private hospital, and then he was "maintained" on BZD drugs (eventually they settled on a rather high dose of xanax) and various antidepressants (first TCA drugs, then SSRIs). He stayed on the meds until he died.
Good thing: he lived to 88 or so in more or less good health.
Bad thing: towards the end, his brain went to Hell. Some kind of dementia and also Parkinsons. Personally, I think "treatment" caught up with him.
