I'm on a slightly less than recommended dose of Marplan (30mg vs the 40 they suggest). I know MAOIs are supposed to almost completely suppress REM sleep and one study showed once the time when suppression took place usually coincided with therapeutic effect.
I'm doing pretty well on 30 (I was on this dose for years in the past) but I still wake up remembering dreams from the night. Does that mean I should go up on the dose slightly more? Does anyone on other MAOIs like Nardil/Parnate still dream?
Thanks.

Does anyone on other MAOIs like Nardil/Parnate still dream?I do. This is unfortunate, perhaps. I no longer respond to MAOIs as well as I once did. Years ago, Parnate 60 mg/day would completely suppress dreaming. Now, I continue to dream at 120 mg/day.
If you are not experiencing significant dizziness, you should consider going to Marplan 40 mg/day or higher if necessary. Some doctors use the presence of orthostatic hypotension (10% or greater decrease in diastolic blood pressure upon standing) as a guide.
Is there any reason why you are reluctant to increase the dosage of Marplan?

Thanks for the reply.
The main reason for trying to find the lowest possible dose is to avoid/limit anorgasmia. I was on Marplan in the past at 30mg and it worked well enough and I while orgasm was delayed it wasn't impossible. This time anorgasmia kicked in after 4 or 5 weeks along w most of the other side effects. I'm kinda hoping that subsides before going up (if needed).
I was just wondering if dreaming was a way to tell you need a higher dose.
I'll talk to my doc about 40 next visit. Might be better to get to 40 and let the side effects wane (hopefully) vs tapering up slower.

I take parnate 40 mg and have on and off for about 5 years. When I first started, it caused horrible insomnia and I needed to take xanax at night to fall asleep. Now I sleep fine with trazadone. It works for me and I have never experienced any problem with REM sleep. I dream every night.
