Fetzima (dose)

Posted by b2chica on June 12, 2015, at 17:47:46

i just started Fetzima on Wednesday at 20mg (once a day).

i would like to know if anyone knows what the average dose for this med is?

and how quickly can we go up. i have noticed absolutely nothing and would like to up sooner rather than later. but didn't know if there are problems with going up to fast.

Thanks
b2

In other words, you are a Fetzima newbie.

It has been my observation that standard reuptake inhibitor antidepressants take a minimum of 2 weeks to feel even the slightest bit better. There are cases where someone will feel a small "blip" improvement that appears for a few days during the first week and then disappears. This is probably a good sign of eventual therapeutic response. However, it is not necessary that one experience this in order to respond.

It is not what the drug does immediately that makes you feel better. It is how the brain rearranges itself in response to the drug that produces the antidepressant effect. I'm sure you realize that if you never allow enough time for this rearrangement to occur, you will never respond well to anything. I don't have enough of a "feel" for Fetzima to know its dose / time characteristics.

I still wonder if Latuda is making you feel worse. Saphris is another new antipsychotic with antidepressant properties. Even though it was not a good drug for me, it has given a friend of mine a new life. She has schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type.

I do forget how different meds work... And ave duration for each, so thanks. In that case I'll wait till next appt and maybe suggest going slightly down on latuda just to see. I am certainly willing to try anything. I have no energy anymore....or should I say, once again..
Sigh..

i have begun to believe you on this Scott. i saw pdoc today and asked to take this down to at least 40mg. (she gave ok). i will increase to fetzime 40 as of tomorrow.

and i was on saphris, it worked nicely (but at the time, not well enough) so i was only on that for about a month. i didn't mind that at all, i had some hunger issues, but not anything like zyprexa and plus i planned it that the hunger came right about lunch time, so it worked well... i just started eating bigger lunches but then at dinner i could eat less (which is better anyway).

i just can't give complete trust to this pdoc. i hate the thought of being on all these medications, but only because i feel that the only reason i'm really on latuda is to make pdoc feel more at ease about me not going into suicidal derangement! However, i was starting to go there before i started jacking up my gabapentin again....

so right now i'm taking
Fetzima 20mg once a day
Adderal 20mg BID
Gaba 300mg 4xday (is that QID?)
and latuda 60mg in evening.
but my pill box is packed to the top of each day due to the gaba, and was sucks is that the fetzim and gabapentin look Exactly the same except that fetzima is a little smaller. but both capsules and both yellow with black writing on them... that's gonna suck if i grab for a gaba and grab an extra fetzima.
i might have to go back to carrying the gaba bottle in my purse and then just grab from that...

and the only thing that really keeps it together for me during the day is the adderall, i'm sensitive enough these days that i can really notice when its time to take my next. and don't suggest xr, (like pdoc did today) i would try it but not right now... as its the only thing that i'm hanging onto that helps (and the gaba) right now.

Thank You Scott.
b2

You can double the dose of the fetzima.
