Posted by Lamdage22 on June 5, 2015, at 11:56:30

I notice it now that im off of it. It made me more assertive. Much more. I was better with ladies.

On a side note it also kicked off psychosis!

Lamdage,

Do you think that there's anything else you can do for your social anxiety, either pharmacologically or otherwise?

Experiencing the effects of Nardil again doesn't seem to be in your best interests, but perhaps it's worth exploring other methods of countering your social anxiety to boost your confidence in social situations, even if they won't lead you to feel how you felt on Nardil.

What do you think?

I think that your frustration with the antipsychotic-related weight gain that you're experiencing is understandable. Perhaps at least taking less as far as antipsychotics are concerned might be beneficial for you. I don't know enough about Lyrica or Neurontin to say whether taking either of those medications might serve to benefit you, but I do think that ultimately aiming to lower your antipsychotic intake would probably be a worthwhile goal.

Finally, as far as wishing that things were different is concerned, I'm right there with you. I think that the consequences of certain actions that we (and others) take can't always be undone, and I also think that experiencing functional impairment associated with a mental condition can place some limitations on the extent to which we can make the changes we'd like to see in life. But I'd like to think that there is always some potential to change things for the better, and I think that we ought to capitalize on those opportunities to make positive change when they present themselves, even if we can't necessarily have things the way we want them. I'm not saying that you're not doing this, as I think that your exercise regimen is definitely a positive thing you're doing to try to improve your situation. And I'm not saying that it's always bad to wish that things were different, because sometimes wishing for change can lead us to take action toward positive change. But I do think that making positive changes where possible should be the goal.

SNAP! I thought I'd wringed Nardil dry, to the point of switching MAOIs. But the social anxiety came back with a vengeance. Had to increase my then minor dose of clonazepam, and a hell lot more. I stopped Nardil in 2007 (I think) and am still trying to get it right. I take 6 different psych meds now and have had nothing quite as good or as long-lasting as Nardil :(
