ive been quite "unsocial" for a couple of years now. and i suppose i can just tell you what ive been doing to make being like this more tolerable. one of the main things is just going places where im around people that dont know me, like Barnes & Noble to just relax and read, or to a fast food restaurant that has wifi and get some food while i surf the internet. it feels good to be around people, and just go out and feel somewhat like a social person, even tho im not exactly socializing. it still provides a sense of normalcy.

and lately, ive been socializing with my older brother more, and feel much less awkward than i do around people who arent family.

im not sure how socially withdrawn youre feeling, but hopefully you can find somethimg that helps.

I struggle with this in waves, it seems. When I'm well enough, I tend to overcompensate and get out and about too much.

Some of the social anxiety I know will pass. A great deal of it is how sensitive I am in crowds or large confined places, like grocery stores or shopping malls. To be honest, several days a week, I only leave the apartment to take out the garbage and retrieve the mail.

I finally stopped beating myself up about it. Moods and emotional states change. Medication can only do so much. I have bashed myself for years over not "improving" and now have decided that I do the best I can when I can.

The best curative for me - to prepare me to be among other people, is to spend some quiet time in nature. A backyard is fine. I happen to live next to a beautiful trail and river. Quietly I will creep down and sit on some rocks. It helps me.

Opposite for me kinda as have to be out daily going somewhere as when around people forget my own problems for the time being. But not inside someones home to parties where I feel trapped. I need to know I can come and go at own will. P

Well part of the reason im withdrawing is because next week i will move back to my hometown.

Because of that i dont want to invest in friendships that will be of short duration.
Is that normal?
