Hi.
I will be adding memantine (Namenda) to my treatment regime.
Has anyone dramatically improved with memantine?
What is your diagnosis or symptom cluster?
What other drugs are you taking?
Thanks you for taking the time to answer these questions.

Not depression or bipolar, but might have some residual depression as a result of ocd. I took memantine both alone and in combo with a ssri up to 40mg. Day and did not experience any benifits.
Side effects were temporary extreme....I mean extreme dumbness when starting, and otherwise nothing.
Good luck

I had a dramatic improvement in my OCD symptoms and mood when I began Memantine. I highly recommend it as an augmentation.
I am diagnosed with ADHD, Bipolar Disorder and OCD.
I am currently taking:
Abilify 30 mg
Fluvoxomine 200 mg
Lithium 900 mg
Lyrica 600 mg
Namenda XR 35 mg (I push the dose a little)
Vyvanse 70 mgEric

If under treatment with an antipsychotic not likely. Alone by itself very possible. Amantadine has sometimes been used in schizophrenia to reduce some of the extrapyrimidal side effects and high prolactin levels. However it is not all that common, probably to the fear you just expressed.

I use the the Lyrica to treat diabetic neuropathy, however it has a positive impact on my anxiety and in turn my mood.
I started at 300 mg twice a day and keep it at that dose.

Hi Scott. Good to see you!
I tried memantine once and did a ton of research on it before that. I believe my overall impression was something like this.....for most people it was either mildly helpful or not helpful....but once in a while there was a miraculous response to it. I don't know, pretty much like everything else I guess...
I thought you had already tried that one?

Yes, I tried memantine quite a few years ago, but my current doctor wants to go above the 20 mg/day that I had tried. I'll be able to go to 50 mg/day if necessary. I will report the results, but I won't be starting it for at least a month.
It is nice to see you, too. I sincerely hope that life has been treating you well.

I had a dramatic but temporary response to Memantine. I remember it well. I think it was what remission would be. However I clearly remember it lasted 24 maybe 48 hrs. It was like 5 years ago or so.

I can TOTALLY relate to what you experienced. Many drugs have had that effect on me. Sometimes three hours, but no more than three days.
Thanks for responding.
