After 23 years of trying different cocktails, Lithium has helped me close to remission. The problem is that it has caused almost total sexual dysfunction decreased libido. I am trying switching other meds in my cocktail to see if it helps my sexual dysfunction. Right now I have almost switched completely from 150mgs of zoloft to 20mgs of brintellix. I have almost made the change and I am no better as far as the sexual dysfunction.
I simply can't come off Lithium or I will relapse so an option is to try Lithium Orotate to see if it can help and cause less side effects. Any experiences would be greatly appreciated.

lithium orotate is much weaker than carbonate form, you can but orotate at a health food, or vitamen stores like GNC, or Vitamen World......
the effect is much less than lithium carbonate, it has small effect though....

Thanks for the reply,
Do you or anyone know roughly what the equivalent so they say dose of Lithium Carbonate to Orotate? I take 1500mgs of Carbonate so wondering what would be the equivalent for Orotate. Can't find it in on the internet.

120mg of lithium is 5mg of elemental lithium, or carbonate.....

"Lithium orotate contains less elemental lithium than lithium carbonate. Lithium orotate 120 mg has about 5 mg of lithium, and lithium carbonate 300 mg has about 60 mg of elemental lithium"

Are you sure the sexual disfunction wasn't caused by the Zoloft?

Scott,
Interestingly enough I saw a study done but can't find it regarding lithium sexual dysfunction on it's own and then lithium and benzodiazapine concomitant sexual dysfunction. I think that benzos and lithium combination can cause up to 47 percent sexual dysfunction as opposed to 7 percent on lithium alone. I am out of luck as 1500mgs of lithium and 1mg of clonazepam as well as a few other medications including zoloft have rendered me almost completely impotent and the lack of libido is shocking. I have tried and tried to come down on the three one at a time carefully and always relapse big time. So frustrating but I guess it is better than being 6 feet under. Did you mention that a new anti psychotic that was supposed to have come out by now but they had the insufficient paperwork submitted might be coming out soon?

Welcome to the club. Prazosin has been a godsend for depression, but leaves me without a sex drive.

Cariprozine is the antipsychotic drug you are thinking of. It is very much like Abilify, but should be better at regulating the dopamine pleasure centers of the brain (nucleus accumbens).
I am currently trying Saphris in the hope that I can use it to replace Abilify for depression and be able to lose the 60 pounds it caused me to gain. Saphris is a great drug if you are looking for a antipsychotic with antidepressant properties. It is my impression that this drug is truly weight-neutral. It seems to be increasing my sex drive, but that could be the result of an improvement in depression.

Thank you Scott. That is great that Saphris seems to be helping. I noticed the same thing when I was on it. It was a good AD for me as well but above 5mgs it went the opposite way. Hopefully cariprozine comes out soon. I wonder if you ever asked about metformin? For me it has been heaven sent for any AAP weight gain. It even works to curb my lithium appetite.
This is the end of the thread.
