Hello, Happy New Year!
I was on .5mg Klonopin for 5 1/2 yrs and thought I'd never get off of it. I c/o to 10mg Valium in March 2014, and began my taper in April 2014. Im doing a cut & hold. I dont have withdrawal. Im doing very well. Am cutting .5mg and now holding 5 weeks each cut. Now at 4.5mg Valium. No anxiety or insomnia, no depression. Still hiking daily for miles. : )

HI P! I knew I'd hear from you. I hope you are ok? Yes, the exercise is primo! Hiking is difficult in this cold, but I get out there daily if its not below 20 degrees-then I try to mall walk.

Gadchik,
Thank you for the update. It's always good to hear from Psycho-Babble members who are doing well, and I'm glad that your Valium taper (after the crossover from Klonopin) seems to be going well. All the best to you on your journey to becoming medication-free.

Thanks for the well wishes, Tomatheus! I wish you well too. : ) It's been a long road. I first tapered Remeron, then Zoloft, and lastly Klonopin. Now Valium. It was actually a Babble member who suggested the c/o to Valium and I waited about a year or so after that to get my nerve up. I cant remember the screen name, but if they reply here, I will if I see it.

Glad to hear you're doing so well. When do you go to 4mg? There's clearly no rush so I assume you'll just carry on with 0.5mg reductions every 5 weeks?
Take care.

Hi Ed! I will go to 4mg in 5 weeks. My cuts will then change to .25mg drops, as I'm mixing & matching 2mg & 5mg Actavis generic Diazepam. I'm following Dr Reg Pearts guidelines. Luckily, my pdoc allowed me to b rxd both pills & to go slowwwwwllyyy! This last cut has me feeling quite good, so far. Hope u r well!

Do you feel anything with the cuts?

I got vertigo & benzo flu when I tried to taper too fast. If I go slow, I don't feel bad. I am doing well. Valium seems to agree with me. I want to continue on though & be free of all meds. At least for as long as possible!

And I have no doubt at all that you will do it and be med free. See feeling better already. How cool is this? P

Excellent!

I think you'd feel a sense of achievement. On the other hand, at least you know you can be really well on a low dose of diazepam too, so there's no worry about taking it.

Yes, I know that my brain has some issues, but it seems to only be when something major happens, big change in my life, a bad one, and I go straight to Crazytown. So, now I know exactly how to proceed, should I need meds. I was able to cut every 2 weeks when I first began my taper, then when trying to go from 8mg to 7.5mg, I had to slow it down. Its ok though, I can live fully AND taper! Good luck to you in your journey! : )

I'm glad your valium taper is going so smoothly. Could you switch to Librium and taper off that? I think its a lot like Valium, only a good bit less potent, so you could have a little more leeway in dosage reductions.
Just a random thought. Glad to hear from yoU!

The thing is... the lowest strength of chlordiazepoxide (Librium) is the 5mg capsule. This is similar in effect to around 2mg of diazepam. Diazepam 2mg tablets are easy to divide compared with Librium capsules, so they are normally preferred for tapering.
Hope this helps.
