How Long Clinical Trials + Time Drug Release?

Posted by Phillipa on December 1, 2014, at 21:49:08

Had a pharmacist say it take 11 years for a medication to go through medical trials and FDA before released for use. Is this the rule? Thanks

That sounds about right. Sometimes it's even longer. I just read about an experimental antidepressant today -- an inhibitor of FKBP51. It sounds promising, but it's frustrating to know that it will be at least ten years before we can get our hands on it -- if it does well in the clinical trials, that is. Here's the article:

This question resulted from a bike ride and talking to one of the neighbors who is a retired pharmacist. Isn't old at all. But she said that she would always lean toward an older medication. And she felt that Statins were good meds. Funny how you see lawsuits all the time on the statins on google. Guess google isn't always right at all. P

It takes a long time.

Glyx-13 is projected to hit the market in 2018 earliest.
