i can't get out of bed in the morning (nomotivatio

Posted by Joe Rogan on November 24, 2014, at 16:31:22

I keep having this addiction to comfort and coziness and can't find the motivation to keep going and get out of bed in the mornings. Clomipramine at 50MG has changed my life but it hasn't gotten me to rise up and work continuously without quitting early. Is it a known symptom of bipolar/depression disorders to not be able to get out of bed in the mornings? To have passivity or lack of motivation, and drive? This seems to be the root of my disability is I have no control over sleep/wake cycle. I just don't care about anything as I nod away. I don't get out of bed until 11:45AM. is there any way to treat this problem so I can have a work routine? I'm taking Abilify 10mg, Clomipramine 50MG, Adderall 30MG, and Depakote 1500MG.

JR,
You wrote the above. And you want to know if there is a way to treat your problem of having no motivation to keep going and get out of bed in the mornings. If I was to know the answers from you to the following, I could have the opportunity to respond accordingly.
True or False:
A. My prescriber, Lou, has prescribed all of the drugs listed to me to take all together.
B. My prescriber, Lou, has not informed me that when taking multiple psychotropic drugs, that the adverse effects could be magnified exponentially.
C. It could be OK to take these drugs together, because the owner/operator here is a psychiatrist and if the combination of these drugs could harm me, he would have intervened and said so, so I will keep taking them together, Lou
D. I am aware, Lou, that taking all of these drugs together could cause heart problems, a blood pressure crisis, extreme drowsiness, confusion, memory problems, impaired thinking, difficulty concentrating and along with those the possibility of sudden death.
Lou

Joe,

I too have ongoing problems with energy, concentration, and sleep regulation that only seem to respond so well to treatment. And well, after having gone through seven years of what I'd probably describe as some sort of non-psychotic chronic fatigue or clinical depression and then eight more years of the same symptoms with psychosis and cognitive impairment sort of superimposed over them, all of the success that I seem to have with treatment always seems to be short lived (with the exception of Abilify, which consistently controls my "positive" psychotic symptoms). So, I don't really have the answers, but I'd suggest working with the professionals who handle your psychopharmacological treatment to make adjustments to your medication regimen, assuming that you've given your current regimen enough time to work. Also, I think I remember you mentioning that your doctors were testing your vitamin D level. Did you ever get those results back? Optimizing your vitamin D might possibly produce therapeutic benefits, although it's hard to say how much supplementing with vitamin D3 has helped me in the long run as far as my mental health is concerned.

I think it's encouraging that you say that taking clomipramine has changed your life, as some kind of response to medication is obviously better than nothing. But I'm sure that you'd like to be experiencing more improvement than you currently are, and I would at least hope that maybe making and adjustment or two to your medication regimen might get you to a point where you'll have the kind of vitality and feelings control over your moods and sleep/wake cycle that you would like to be experiencing.

If you have more questions for me (or for others on this board), please feel free to ask. Take care, and be well.

Tomatheus

Sleep/wake cycle and normalizing it is an important part of controlling bipolar disorder.

Elanor haven't seen you here in a long time. That is good news on the solstice in two days. Maybe the days will really start to get longer again. Phillipa
