So I am a male sufferer of the unfortunately under-researched and under-understood (lol) condition of Post SSRI Sexual Dysfunction. It's been three months after discontinuing a three year stretch of Prozac and my genitals have numbed considerably. I'm not content to wait indefinitely to see if this goes away. I fear my 5-HT1A autoreceptors have diminished to the point that my serotonin is crowding out my dopamine, leading to persistent genital numbness. I'd like to not have this. Are there any recommended ways to increase the density of 5-HT1A autoreceptors to pre-SSRI levels?

You might consider working with a 5-HT1a partial agonist.
Viibryd
Buspar
Brintellix
AbilifyI think some people have reported increased libido with Viibryd. I don't know about genital sensitivity, though.

Thanks, I am intrigued by Buspar.

I just went through this with Cymbalta. I feel you.

I don't think that would be the case, but something clearly isn't right.
Rather than focusing on specific receptors, you might have more success attacking the problem more broadly.
The NIH states that yohimbine hydrochloride is the standardized form of yohimbine that is available as a prescription medicine in the United States, and that it has been shown in human studies to be effective in the treatment of male erectile dysfunction. Yohimbine has been shown to be effective in the treatment of orgasmic dysfunction in men. Yohimbine has also been used to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder (under active libido) in women and men.
Alongside Yohimbe, I would recommend Myrapex to augment it and if you really want those 5ht1a receptors, I'd recommend Buspar or Pindolol. I wouldn't do another antidepressant or atypical antipsychotic simply because they will have action on other serotonin receptors.
HOWEVER, I might mention that Abilify has been shown to improve libido.

Thanks Eric. If you don't mind me asking, have you improved after Cymbalta? I will certainly try different remedies, though I am curious if the passage of time will see things improve as well.

The good news is I have slowly recovered from Cymbalta. I was dead below the waste, no desire for sex and then about a month or so after stopping I started having sexual desires and very inconvenient but welcome erections. I'm now engaged in sexual conduct regularly. On top of that I'm on Luvox now, which shows not all ADs carry the same sexual side effects-in fact I wonder if the Luvox helped...

> EricI'm glad to hear you recovered! I hope to recover with the passage of time as well. Luvox was the first step in my tortured SSRI journey. I took it in combination with CBT. The CBT worked better than the Luvox. Unfortunately, a growing boy has growing worries and my OCD mutated to an incapacitating level. Prozac helped for many years but I can't bear the thought the sexual dysfunction will persist indefinitely.
