Hi All-
Any suggestions on how to ease off Vyvanse? I've been on 40-60 mg (40 now) for about 8 or so months, and I've tried tapering as well as cold turkey and I'm experiencing horrible withdrawal symptoms (it's akin to a mix between opiate and benzo withdrawal). I'm suffering so horribly I've even considered doing a medical detox, which is really the last thing I want to do.
Thoughts? Suggestions? I've been "at war" w/ my pdoc so he's utterly useless. I originally went on it to help my MDD as well as for motivation and to help reinforce a regular sleep cycle. Unfortunately, at this point, it's compounded my depression in the form of irritability and melancholia, and I really want off.
Thanks in advance.

do you have lyrica, Neurontin, benzos? Those usually help stimulant tapers.

Doesn't help you much but that was my experience.

Hey, b-
Sorry to hear you're having a time of it. Lyrica could be useful. I withdrew from cymbalta with it.

i've withdrawed from amphetamine many times.....it can be helped by using provigil or nuvigil.....it's a wakefulness agent, not a psychomotor stimulant, it will help with staying alert yet not the dopamine stimulation from vyvanse.....
but as for the agitation, yea lyrica, or ... nuerontin, maybe a low dose benzo.....
that and coffee....
how long has it been now?

Thanks everyone for your input. I have Ativan, but it's not doing much. I can't take Lyrica or neurontn as they make me manic :(. I'm considering a clinical outpatient taper...NYC has a lot of these; you stay at home but go daily to their center to detox. Hmphh....
Thx for your input so far. This is truly bizarre.

I seem to recall high dose niacinamide helping me during come downs from Ritalin and amphetamines. The OM people say to take at least as much C as niacinamide, plus a b-complex. You can also take additional stuff according to OM people.

Hi Bryn,
I'm sorry to hear that. Withdrawal (benzo) was the worst experience of my life. Vyvanse is water soluble. So if you dissolve 40 mg in 40 ml of distilled water, you could make extremely small cuts. You can keep the liquid Vyvanse in the fridge and use a medicine dropper to measure your dose. Here's a taper schedule for Valium, but it's for 40 mg, so you might try following it for your Vyvanse taper. It's Schedule 2.

Thanks for your good advice (as always). I've tapered off Valium & opiates before. This feels like a combo. I've been told to cut my vyv dose by 10% daily but it's too confusing for me, lol. I may try tapering w/ adderall. Or do an outpatient detox in the city.
Thanks again! If you think of anything else, do tell...

Thanks, C_e,
Good advice, I'll look I to it. This is pure hell. (And, it makes my depression much worse.) I'll do some research and go to the health food store.
Thank you!!

My girlfriend is on it and ive have used it,and this is no joke of a med first off,so let me hand my congartulations for as far as you come,as far as stimulants go its one of the worst cause it feels like your friend (sound familiar) like its mild and your buddy with no stim rush and it feels like it lifts you right out of any hole and back into the world.
Then that feeling lessens, however the lack of it brings upon pure horror, its a double edged sowrd for my girl who uses it for severe CFS.Witouout it shes nothing on the counch laid out unable to do the simpleist tasks. The min that capsule gets in her shes up irononing etc.Ive seen non script users beg for this med cause it simply make you feel like a whole new person again, but again once tolerance builds in a day off it is a living hell.
Its a shame your not tight knitted with your p doc you need his help now more then ever, what i would say is fight fire with fire, you got to fight this monster with another monster, meaning start to repleace it with more common stims like ritalin,my girl has responded to that in her absense of it,she says of course not vyanese but yeah it works. So you taper to a lower milder stim, then you start a strategy for that see if thats more feasable to wean off,if not you use that till you can jump to another lesser one maybe until you can even get to say modfanil as your stimulant, pls ask away as my girl is an EXTREME veteran on this drug

Switch to 10 mg capsules of dextroamphetamine and take as needed (when you feel withdrawal symptoms). Of course, take them at least 6 hours apart. Slowly ween yourself off them by decreasing the dose.
