Does anyone know if Strattera is safe and effective for this condition? I have concentration issues, and I used to take it. My insurance covers it. Pdoc probably won't prescribe it as it may worsen my psychotic disorder. Also, I'm on a lot of meds and really want to keep my med regimen simple. Simplify, simplify!
Good to know in any case. Thanks.

Nortriptyline might be a reasonable substitute. I personally found nortriptyline much more tolerable than straterra. It had more positive effect on my mood too.

My doc suggested Nortriptyline,
but now that i have gone psychotic from Stablon (Tianeptine), he doesn't want to do it anymore.

A medication such as strattera would likely worsen any psychotic disorder. In psychotic disorders like schizoaffective, neurotransmitters like dopamine and neurophinephrine (NE) are normally too high.
I'd forget about it and focus on FDA approved medications for schizoaffective, or just do the common sense thing and add an SSRI if you are having concentration problems.
Unfortunately, medications for these severe forms of mental illness like schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, manic depression and psychotic depression leave a lot to be desired in terms of effectiveness and side effect profiles.

its kinda harsh, but maybe Tofranil (imipramine) ? Its been studied for ADD/ADHD. Also helps mood and anxiety. Can be activating, but will help you sleep (either tablets or 1 PM capsule at night).
Just a thought.

Guafacine is sometimes used as a support medication for adhd. It's not a stimulant, (I think it's a blood pressure medication), and it's supposed to strengthen (?) areas of the brain affected by adhd. I take it at night because it can create drowsiness.
I know this isn't exactly what you were asking for. Good luck :)

yea lostboyin is right, strattera works on NE, too much NE with psychosis will cause alot of agitation, i've been on strattera twice, and i always noticed, yes there is more alertness, and attention, but at sometimes i couple stop being alert, like when i get home to relax, i would still be awake and stimulanty have to drink or take xanax.....

Yeah its a bad idea. If it kicks you into psychosis, you will be thrown back and need more APs despite having discontinued Stratteta.
APs have lots of side effects, so that wouldnt be in your best interest.
