i just got home from therapy and i think i'm going to change doctors. i like my doctor but i'm not doing or feeling well. i'm exhausted.
my therapist said, see that building? there's a lady psychiatrist there that charges $650 an hour. i thought that nonsense was restricted to NYC. that is insane. obviously, she doesn't accept medicare or insurance.

The one I just walked away from had just jacked her prices up to $350 and you got a hug and a small bottle of water.
New pdoc on Monday takes my insurance plan.

Wow. I do believe that the lower priced Pdocs get their salaries supplemented by Big Pharma, judging by the samples I've left their offices with and all the pens, pads, and - yes - stress balls I have seen branded with one after another ineffective medication.

Things like that can often be deceptive...
The person might charge a patient for a 15 minute slot.
Or that might be the cost of initial assessment (together with extensive report - which actually takes quite a bit to put together especially if it is to be used for disability or whatever).
I'm not saying it is wrong... Just that stuff like that can be really deceptive.
I remember hearing of how much lecturers got 'per lecture' in certain places and being wowed. Then discovered that the reality was that you wouldn't have more than 1 lecture per day. And then the couple hours preparation that you were expected to do per lecture. The office hours that were associated. The student emails. The grading. The tutorials...
But then... If after years and years and years of practice you are in the position of having a few clients who are regular... Such that you can drop your hours the hell back... I guess that is the dream for a lot of people.
Who knows...
It is probably a good idea to say that. If you aren't taking on any more clients. Then you might be able to 'just sneak someone in to see you' on the odd occasion... You build up a reputation of 'wow he charges that much?? He must be so good!!'
I am a cynic.

sigh.
and of course that's supposed to be the point of life...
to manouver yourself (by way of networking and hard work early on) into a place where you make maximal money for minimal time spent.
that's why people are horrified about my starting over... all the opportunities i've had... that i actually don't feel i've done much of anything with (because i can't really do the social networking thing)... but of course i realise a bit of what i'm missing in actually being there in class with all the first years rather than meeting the professors of this that and the other...
anyway... nothing much of anything to be done. except to do the best i can...
you are supposed to be able to relax at some point. i guess the idea is... take some time to enjoy your family. if you hold off a bit in having them... i guess that is the ideal...
in the guy brain plan of things, i mean.
:(

Its more than unkind to charge 650$ an hour. She must think she is Jesus

I kinda agree...I wonder is it just a supply/demand thing, and she's taking advantage of that to the fullest
