OCD, Depression, liquid prozac

Posted by Anney on July 27, 2014, at 8:57:35

Hi all,

I am new to this site. Came across the thread from '09 re: the benefits of taking low dose liquid prozac which I have been on since 2006.

I have a very mild OCD that flares up occasionally, and have struggled with a low grade depression for years. I am very sensitive to medications and this medicine in liquid form at a low dose has been good for me. However, over the last 2 years I have had to raise my original 10mg dose to 20mg, and then now to 40mg (although I must admit I have not been taking it consistently and tend to skip a day or two every week-- I am so tired of taking it).

My question is, since that time is there any other drug at a low dose that has shown to be more effective? Is my body just becoming used to the prozac, or can I try to reduce it again but just take it more consistently? And, does anyone know of any more natural alternatives to the prozac?

Thank you so much,

Anney

5HTP helps some people. The doses seem to range from 50x3 to 200x3.

niacinamide, inositol, b-complex, valerian, kava kava....st.john's wort (the perika brand comes to mind)...

Prozac is one of the most effective SSRIs on the market. I'd say Lexapro might be as strong, but there's also Effexor and Mirtazapine which both get high marks.

You may be experiencing poop out on the Prozac(tachyphylaxis). You've been taking it quite a while.

or

Your stress levels have risen, causing more depression and anxiety.

The only natural alternatives to Prozac is St. John's Wort or Kava.
