Hi, two days a week I wake up and can't get back to sleep. Has anyone successfully taken benzos to get to sleep 2 or 3 times a week for several years without building a tolerance?

Yes, but only when I mix it with magnesium (enhances effect and reduces tolerance / withdrawl - for me at least).

Interesting, how many years have you been doing this for? I tried magnesium by itself for a couple months, but it didn't touch my insomnia.

Been on a variety of benzos for yes you are reading it correctly 44 years. Sometimes I took none, Sometimes take a piece of one. If you are truly anxious you will not abuse. I never developed tolerance. Actually maybe because I'm so much older now take less. Oh also do take 1-200mg of magnesium a night at bedtime. Oh used to take benzos throughout the day. For many years now nights only. Phillipa

That's incredible that you take them nightly for 44 years and haven't built a tolerance. If I take them every day for a week I build a tolerance. Am I really reading that right that you have taken them every day for 44 years??! You must have the most resilient GABA receptors in history. I used to have problems with alcohol, so I think I destroyed most of my GABA receptors.

You are reading me right except there were sometimes like during RN school where I didn't need them. Once had a pdoc that wanted me to take .5mg of Xanax and I did for a week. Didn't like how I felt so again decreased it. How or what are resilient gaba receptors? Phillipa

Wow, GABA receptors are the receptors that are activated by ingesting benzos. It sounds like yours are in good shape. That's amazing.

They used to be. But now I feel I must take them as older and know things now didn't know way back then. Was before computers and sites like this. Believe me I was better off. Cause I didn't know I didn't experience this. That's my theory anyway. Phillipa
