I thought I would share that I've been feeling significantly better since adding mirtazapine about 3.5 months ago. It has a nice antidepressant effect which is what I needed, but I'm also happy with how it is helping my anxiety as well. I wish a doctor would have mentioned mirtazapine a long time ago but of course SSRI is always first line treatment, but I like mirtazapine so much better, less side effects and I don't feel like I'm "on something" it works good in the background for me similar to Lamictal.
So here's what has been working for me:
Lamictal 150mg
mirtazapine 22.5mg
lorazapam 1mgLovaza (4000mg total EPA+DHA omega3)
vitamin D 4000IU
vitamin b12 1000mcg
methylfolate 800mcgherpills

Wow, that's great. You get an antidepressant effect at that dose of mirtazapine? Interesting. I let my mirtazapine run out because I thought it wasn't doing anything. I've been sliding again, though. I was taking 30 mg. Hmmm.
Your meds are nice and low. Only a few. Thank you for sharing your good news. Is the vitamin B12 sublingual? Did you work on your supplements with a doctor?

Yeah, I know I've read that higher doses are better...I was surprised how much of a lift I got just on 15mg. I might go back down to that dose as I'm not seeing much of a difference with the 22.5mg.
The vit b12 is subligual Solgar brand. I have a great new primary care doc who knows and suggests alternative treatments. Currently not seeing a pdoc anymore as was not getting better after 2+ years with that provider. I got a second opinion from different pdoc at same clinic who suggested the mirtazapine. Now I just plan on staying on this combo and see how it goes. I like that the doses are low and I can always go up to 200mg Lamictal and 30-45mg mirtazapine if symptoms return. I'm also thinking about trying higher doses of methylfolate again. I've tried Deplin before but not with mirtazapine. I would say at this point my depression is maybe at 70% remission right now. Thanks again for your comments. Have you ever tried mirtazapine above 30? herpills

You should bump the Lamictal up to 200 mg and the Mirtazapine up to 30 mg.

Congrats to you. I once tried 15mg of remeron and nothing. No side effects. So stopped in a month. How long did you take before you noticed it? Phillipa

Herpills,
I too am glad to hear that you've been feeling significantly better since adding mirtazapine to your combo. I'd be making an understatement by saying that mirtazapine didn't treat me well, but it's good to hear that you're having success with the medication. I hope that the feelings of well being that you're experiencing now will continue for at least some time.

I didn't experience an increase in daytime sleepiness when I increased my dosage of Mirtazapine on two occassions-from 15 to 30 and from 30 to 45 mg. If you do, you can always take some Nuvigil.

I found Mirtazapine to have an interesting effect. But i had funny (or not so) nightmares.
