I just bought kava kava from a health food store in Canada. It (according to them) is back. I will just need to double check that this isn't some illegal import.
Otherwise, kava kava is back baby! Party at my house!

I know there is the risk to the liver. However, this is one of the alternative treatments for anxiety which really works for me.

I loved it - perhaps a bit too much? It is potentially psychologically addictive (I speak from experience), and while IMHO the liver risk was vastly overstated (and maybe due to impurities in some brands - remember the melatonoin scare?), overuse can certainly lead to some cognitive impairment and a nasty skin condition. That said, I think it's a lot safer than most Rx pharmaceuticals.
Be careful what you buy - the straight root is often low-quality, unreliable and poorly absorbed. Look for a product that guarantees a standard percentage of kavalactones (15% is good if I remember correctly). To improve absorption, take with a hot drink (especially fat-containing ones), or empty the capsules and blend with cocoa.
This is the end of the thread.
