I've switched successfully from Trileptal to Tegretol. Unfortunately, I lost the great sleep I got on Trileptal.
After a few weeks on Tegretol I'm not sleepy. This sucks. I need sleep. Not sure what the answer is. I've been taking Benadryl, melatonin, etc. to sleep, but my mood isn't so hot from the lack, of good deep sleep.
Is this common from Tegretol? At first it made me sleepy.
I may have to add a med now for sleep.

Trileptal at a low dose never made me tired. But was taking benzos more often then. I remember when trileptal was released it was said the difference was something like one oxygen ion? What did you take for sleep in the past? Phillipa

If you're going to treat the insomnia, use Gabitril, it improves stage 4 sleep and extends slow waves.

I haven't really had to take anything for sleep in a long time. Usually 6mg of melatonin helps. When I was taking Trileptal it knocked me out and I slept great.
Years ago I took 50mg of Seroquel for sleep and more recently in the past few years 40mg of Geodon would help with sleep.
But I need to address both insomnia and depression at this point. I guess lack of good sleep is wrecking my mood which is causing more daytime depression.

I agree as no sleep or not good sleep plays havoc with how one feels. Phillipa
