Graipfruit Juice-Beware

Posted by BrainDamage on March 6, 2014, at 7:42:52

Today I was stupid enough to eat half a Grapefruit
I also had Grapefruit juice last night

At around 3:30 AM I had 300mg of Quetiapine & I took Promethazine before I went to bed

I was vaguely aware that Grapefruit & Quetiapine interacted
But I had no idea that Grapefruit inhibits Enzymes for at least a day!

Now I feel quite ill
No more Grapefruit for me, had no idea how long the inhibition lasted

Does anyone know if Grapefruit interacts with Doxylamine?

I'm going to assume it does, unless anyone knows its ok

I don't know but it seems grapefruit juice interacts with an awful lot of meds. And thinking of it not once has a doc ever told me of this. There should be warnings posted on the bottles of prescriptions that it interacts with. Phillipa

There are. I have had these labels on meds from two diff pharmacy chains:

Walgreens and Rite Aid both use them.

Ask your pharmacist. I get "Do not drink Grapefruit Juice" labels on about half my meds these days, but when I ask the pharmacist, he'll tell me whether it's a major or minor interaction. On some, I used to deliberately take them with grapefruit juice - more bang for my buck - but I sure wouldn't want to do that with a heart med.!
