Hello everyone! I have gradually been crossing over to valium to get off of klonopin. I am now on 7.5mg valium with .625mg klonopin, and tonight will be my last night to take klon. I will be moving up to 10mg valium tomorrow night, then stabilizing for 4 weeks. After which, I will begin a gradual taper from valium. I will have remeron to help when I get to the lower doses near the end. Ive never been able to get this low on klon before and it is amazing to me. I haven't had too many issues either, doing well. Thanks for listening!

Maybe you don't need it anymore? I bet you can stop the klonopin after tonight and not even need to raise the dose of valium? You are almost drug free. Congrats!!!! P

Yes, P, my pdoc wants me to stay at 7.5mg valium, but Im scared because all the charts say .5mg klon = 10mg valium, and as Ive lowered the klon, Ive gradually raised the valium, and it seems to correspond to that. I started with .25klon with 5mg valium and I haven't had too many probs. She said to go up to 10mg valium "if u have to". I will only stay on the 10mg for 4 weeks then get down to 5mg, then go from there.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE:This study aims at evaluating the tolerability and efficacy of the antiepileptic drug oxcarbazepine in benzodiazepine detoxification in ten patients.
METHODS:In this case study of an inpatient withdrawal program, each of the ten patients was detoxified using oxcarbazepine and completed withdrawal successfully without the occurrence of withdrawal symptoms. The detoxification program followed an outlined dosage scheme with oxcarbazepine increase and benzodiazepine tapering.
RESULTS:The rapidity of benzodiazepine detoxification using oxcarbazepine was remarkable, benzodiazepine withdrawal being completed in as little as 11 days.
CONCLUSIONS:The results support the assumption that oxcarbazepine is a valuable drug for inpatient benzodiazepine withdrawal programs.

Thanks, Scott. Now I can ask my pdoc about that one if I have difficulty with valium taper, because, before, I would never disclose to her that I wanted to taper klonopin. I was in fear that she would want to yank me off quickly and in short order. However, she seems to be willing to do whatever is going to make me comfortable and capable. I feel strong. Worrier to warrior!!

Congratulations! I know this is something you've wanted to do for quite some time. I quit Klonopin cold turkey (which I recommend to no one), so I don't know what the switch to valium, then taper Valium routine is like. I wish you success in the next phase.

Thanks for ur reply! Yes, for some time, Ive wanted to get off klon. May be since the day I began it! But I cant say it's an evil med. I know it worked for me. I really needed to get my nervous system stabilized. Maybe Zoloft would've worked, but for me, klon just clicked with no updosing, no weight gain, etc, pretty benign as far as side effects. Yes, I will have to settle in for the ride off of valium now. Im putting my faith in it to be easier for me. I could not taper the klon, very difficult.

Klonopin was also the most difficult BZD for me to discontinue.

I c/o to valium last night, 10mg. I was taking .125mg klon with 7.5mg valium, not .625mg klon. So I was happy to be done with klon. I dreamed all night, weird. And I knew I'd get up and be very groggy this morn. But I will feel normal in a few days. I plan to stabilize for 30 days, then start the slow taper of valium. I know a lot of people say don't drink coffee during this, but coffee makes me feel human, and Ive just had a cuppa and am feeling Happy-"like a room without a roof...can't nothin' bring me down" That's from Happy by Pharrell in case u think Ive lost my mind!!

Interesting about the dreaming. I found that I slept better after I got off klonopin. Good luck with the taper, sounds like its working out so far!

Thanks, herpills. Im just still taking the 10mg valium, doing well. Im also 50 and in a weird thing with my hormones and such too, so my sleeping is good sometimes, bad sometimes. My pdoc gave me remeron, of which I can take a crumb of and sleep like a baby if need be. But, so far, Ive slept ok, not needing it, and a little afraid to try it with the valium, even tho I took it with klon occasionally. Once I get to a low dose of valium and hopefully off completely, I will see if I have the need for Zoloft and perhaps hormones. I exercise a lot and eat healthy so that really sustains me. So, how is everything with you? Are u ready for spring and flowers?!!
