Hey, everybody!
Due to a variety of reasons, I am discontinuing Effexor XR (venlafaxine) 150mg. I am looking for this antidepressant to serve as a maintenance medication within my cocktail. My cocktail is currently:
Adderall IR (amphetamine salts) 60mg.;
Aplenzin (bupropion hydrobromide) 522mg.;
Effexor XR (venlafaxine) 150mg.;
Lamictal (lamotrigine) 200mg.;
Latuda (lurasidone) 80mg.;
Nuvigil (armodafinil) 250mg.;
Neurontin (gabapentin) 1,200mg.;
Topamax (topiramate) 100mg.------
I am contemplating an alternative SNRI or perhaps a TCA (or atypical AD with NE properties) as I postulate that it would make discontinuation of venlafaxine smoother.
** But! **
^^^
This is not required.I can do a tapering process. I have lots of Effexor XR and Pristiq lying around.
I currently, I have my eyes set upon Brintellix (vortioxetine) since it is a 5-HT7 antagonist and I've done well on Latuda-- and Fetzima (levomilnacipran) because it's another SNRI.
I'm open to any suggestions, the only failed AD has been Zoloft (sertraline). I have not tried anything else; therefore, there is a wide range of ADs I could try. My appointment is Monday.
TL;DR:
I just need an AP to replace Effexor XR as part of my therapy, and I'm wondering what the best one would be?

I dunno. I'm doing well on Tofranil, and they always said Effexor was a cleaned up alternative to a TCA.

I've been on Brintellix two weeks and so far its the most potent AD I've been on.

It made a strong impact on my anxiety (panic, obsessive, general) rather quickly. I'm just now reaping the mood benefits. I find myself more positive and warm.

Could you replace Effexor with either sertaline + nortriptyline or sertaline + bupropion

The only SSRIs I haven't taken are Paxill and Celexa. The only SNRIs I haven't been on are Cymbalta and Fetzima.

Cymbalta has worked well for me for several years, altho it's now pooping out & I've gone back to Cipralex. Mfgr's info says Cymbalta is better balanced, gives more NE effect (but NOT anxiety in my experience). Cymbalta has received a "bad press" in the prof. lit. for some reason; talking to pdocs, it works better than Effexor for some people but the averages are what the drug plans go by (argggh!).
My experience: Moderate doses of Effexor drive me nuts with anxiety, Cymbalta up to 90mg/day is virtually side-effect free, except the usual sexual dysfunction.
This is the end of the thread.
