Increase Valium from 5 mg to 10 mg?

Posted by Bob12 on February 28, 2014, at 14:10:43

Hi,
Around 6 months ago I increased my Valium dose from 2 mg to 5 mg, once at night, This was to reduce anxiety and help me sleep better.
I am still having anxiety during the day, OCD, and sleeping problems at night.
Does anyone think I should increase the valium to 10 mg, once at night?
thanks

even 10mg is still quite a low dose, however, I would suggest at this point trying either an SSRI (say Celexa 10mg in the morning) or Mirtazapine (say 30mg at bedtime)

Both releive anxiety and depression for most people, mirtazapine helps you sleep as well, and there are no issues with tolorance/dependence as with Valium

I say Remeron would be great for u and u might get by with a low 7.5mg dose with low dose valium

After reading the above posted article on FDA approval can you first purchase a few at least name brand valiums and see if it makes a difference? Phillipa

Well, benzos haven't really passed the test for treating OCD, just gad and panic disorder. Where's the anxiety coming from? If OCD is generating the anxiety, don't count on the valium helping.

Oh, yeah,

you can switch to Clonazepam which is the only benzo that showed some promise in treating OCD in trials.

I am leaning towards 10 mg of Valium once a day at night, because I do not want sexual side effects from Celexa, or the lethargy and weight gain from Remeron.
I also take 17.5 mg of Zyprexa, so Remeron might not be a good addition (it could cause even more lethargy and weigh gain).

I think you'll be fine w/ 10mgs/nightly. Beats a lot of the alternatives.

Have you looked into switching to Clonazepam? I think its much more effective on anxiety and less habit forming.
