I haven't got a call from my pdoc, but in desperation I placed a call to the neurologist that originally put me on Oxtellar XR (long acting Trileptal).
He wants me to take 1200mg at night along with Geodon for depression.
I fibbed and never told him that I stuck with the 600mg tabs because they worked and I already felt flat so I figured 1200mg would make me a zombie and swell even more.
He wants to see me in a week.
So now is my time to get back on Trileptal and show him in a week the pain and swelling. Maybe at that time he can do a sodium blood test for hyponotremia and also blood work for my liver. Maybe if I walk in with proof he can help me.
Now my question is, how different is 600mg compared to 1200mg? I'm scared. Do I go from now 150mg to 1200mg or just stick with 600mg?
What will happen to me tonight if I go straight to 1200mg?
I'm scared, but I need proof to show the doc.

I know, Phillipa. I've worked so hard to wean myself down on the Trileptal. I just don't want to go there again.
I see my pdoc on Monday and she understands about the swelling and is fine with a potentially lower dose that doesn't cause swelling or even trying to switch to Depakote.
I'm going to wait until Monday morning when I see her.
I just don't want to go back to that pain.

Then you call your p-doc She tells you something else. Which advice do you follow or do you just follow neither?
I find this confusing. Who is responsible for you care - the neurologist or the p-doc? Do they talk to one another? Have they agreed on a division of labor here?

Actually, I saw the neurologist before I was able to get in and see the pdoc. It took 3 months to get in to the pdoc. The neurologist prefers that I see a pdoc even when I see him and they're both on the same page. I haven't been honest with him about seeing the pdoc.
I haven't been compliant at all - ever. I now have to be. I will inform both docs so that they can both be on the same page. This will especially make the neuro happy because he always asks me if I'm seeing a pdoc.
Depakote wasn't cutting it and I was spinning out of control as you can read from my posts in the past few days. I had to go back to what has given me stability - Trileptal.
This weekend my husband had a talk with me and we discussed a lot of options (me being compliant, me going to a day program for a few weeks or me being hospitalized until me meds are correct) and I promised him I would take the doctor prescribed Trileptal dose the doctor gave me. I'm working up to 1200mg. So far I'm at 750mg and I feel a complete difference. Tonight is 900mg. Finally, no more anxiety attacks and I can even tolerate a morning cup of coffee. My asthma inhaler doesn't make me hypomanic either. So, yes, I have to admit the medicine works.
I have an appointment with my pdoc today and I have to be honest with her about my non-compliance. I see her again in 2 weeks and I should be on 1200mg by then. So she can keep a close eye on me over a short 2 week period.
I'm also taking low dose Geodon for depression.
It's hard to grasp being a mixed BP. I hate it. But the medicine does work. So far, after 4 days no swelling. My husband says maybe the dose the doc gave me won't cause the side effects.
So, I'm being compliant for once in my life. My husband is really supporting me on this.

You've gotmy full support as well. I'll be so proud when you get to 1200 and STAY there.
I've been thinking of going back on Geodon...
