I just walked into a health food store and bought l-tryptophan in Canada. I thought this stuff was not available OTC (I knew it was available as a prescription).
I got 90 caps (250mg per cap) for $13. Not bad.

In the US, it went back on the market about a decade ago. For instance, in Whole Foods down here, you can find the Source Naturals version, Now Foods version, the Jarrow version, and others. The Wikipedia article on l-tryptophan says that safety restrictions in the US were loosened in 2001.
