I go to a public health clinic. I like it, actually. I tried to get an appointment with a private doc (parents were willing to pay cash when I didn't have insurance, provided I didn't require too many appointments), but no one would take me. This happens when you take shrinks to the medical board...
...anyway, my doc is leaving or something. Most docs there aren't permanent. This new one (new to me, anyway) is a permanent employee of the DMH.
OK. So, I'm on 1200/trileptal, 300 (max)/Neurontin, 30/Abilify, and 150/Tofranil (old school kind...50mgs tabs, x3 at night).
I'm doing surprisingly well! I used to be state mental hospital material. Now, I'm fairly lucid, looking to go back to school (online, of course), and I seem more bipolar than schizophrenic, which is definitely progress.
OK. I have some agitation issues, and the Neurontin is quite helpful. Do you think going up on the dose would help with agitation and maybe stabilize my mood? If I dropped the Neurontin and went with Lamictal, I'm guessing it would max out at 200, would that also help agitation and depression?
I have major problems with recurrent psychotic depression. Have since High School. The Tofranil has been a real godsend. Sedating at night, calming and somewhat stimulating during the day. Yesss! Just what I needed...
...but there's work to be done. Mood fluctuations, agitation, a tendency to dive into the darkness of depression. I don't want to be on an AD, particularly a TCA, indefinitely. Scares me a lil bit.
I'm trying to keep it at 4 meds or less. Disability won't cover more than that and, honestly, I think 4 is reasonable. I was kinda thinking that dropping the Neurontin in favor of either Remeron (bc of weight gain and what not, I was thinking starting at 30) or some kinda once daily Wellbutrin.
What do y'all think?

CE I didn't know Disability puts a cap on the number of meds one can take. Since you are doing well, back to school online. That is such an improvement why not leave your meds where they are for the time being. Hope this doc is a good one. Phillipa
