NoMore Metadate CD. Ritalin LA or Metadate ER?

Posted by Katie Tao on January 22, 2014, at 1:38:35

Hi.
Because of insurance, my son has to leave Metadate CD, which works VERY well for him. Wears off after about 8 to 9 hours. He had absolutely no issues or problems with the 30/70 split.

He has tried Concerta, but it lasted too long where it interfered with sleep. Regular ritalin was horrible because the crash caused depression.
Something that splits up the doses would be fine. And something that lasts the same amount of time would be great.

Is Metadate ER or Ritalin LA a good sub? It looks like the Metadate ER may have a different delivery system, even for the long-acting portion that MEtadate CD had. And I've heard Ritalin LA has quite a different pharmacokinetic sp? profile.

I definitely want something that doesn't last too long, and what I'm most worried about is crashing.

Thanks in advance,

Katie

Metadate ER may last too long for your liking: 10-12 hours. Ritalin LA is goofy. Each capsule contains half the dose as immediate-release beads and half as enteric-coated, delayed-release beads, thus providing an immediate release of methylphenidate and a second delayed release of methylphenidate. This somehow helps with the crash.

Have you ever tried dextroamphetamine? There isn't as much of a crash with it.

Not yet. Should we look into it? What are the up sides?

THanks.

I would look into d-amphetamine in order to widen your options. Upsides to d-amphetamine include better mood and less crash.
